Never tried a venturi vacuum pump. I have used a rotary vane pump, basically the ones used by auto shops to evacuate A/C systems in cars. Quiet and works really well, you can get a full 28mmhg no problem. Not too expensive either, you can get a decent one for under a hundred bucks. Most auto parts s...

Thanks Stan, I'm inclined to do just that, skip the topsheet altogether, I've made a ton of paddle blades in a bag with the peel ply surface and just used a couple coats of aluzine resin to fill the surface and get a nice mirror finish after some wet sanding and polishing. Getting a perfect pin free...
