Re: Who is responsible for kite when landing?

Usually when I land a kite for someone, I catch it and then turn it over with the struts facing the sky so it is kind of flying in your hand (upside down?). Then I walk to the guy and hand him his kite or if he tells me to flip it, I do, at that point it is near him and he is able to do what needs t...

Re: Rip in 6 to 10 knots?!

A guy in Kailua rides the same or similar board, I can vouch that he has been the only one out on a few occasions, my guess was 6 to 8 knots and he was able to ride upwind really well. He is on the lighter end as far as rider comparison and was using a 17m ozone when I saw him. No lawn is safe anymo...

Strapless jumping board for big guy?

Anyone have any experience or recommend a good solid strapless board that will survive jumps from a big guy? 225lb 6'6" I rented an older cabrinha trigger on maui and it seemed sturdy so was thinking about a 2012 or 2013 cabrinha board, maybe the subwoofer? I'll probably be mostly in chop to head hi...

Re: All Around Directional for Small Waves and light to med

+1 to get a cheap used board. I got a Tokoro 6'6"x20.5"x2 5/8 big guy board with a pretty flat rocker, had extra glass, for $100, it is still going, used it about 9 months. There is a lot to learn on surfboard, gybe to toeside, switching feet before and after the gybe, tacking. After learning some o...

Re: maui(north shore) windguru

I went around mid august as well, was out on an 8m and surfboard, I'm 230lbs, forecasts were light. After a while I notice I'm 1 of about 3 kiters out, started getting worried they knew something I didn't, then I realized everyone went back in to switch to 5 and 6m kites, haha. Maui is definitely an...

Re: Race Boards Fins Down On The Beach

A windsurfer (probably not local because of where it was left) left their board on the beach, fin up, I personally saw a kite end up in a bad landing situation and get slashed by the fin, lucky it was just the kite. Just an observation, the solution varies for every situation.

you can rent boards too, there are several shops in Kailua and Hawaii Kai with kite surfboards and twintips for $20-$30 a day, not too bad...

Cab Trigger vs North X-Surf, anyone rent the X-Surf on Maui?

I'm 6'6" 230lbs and have been riding strapless on a double glassed surfboard made for heavy riders about 6-8 months. I want to start trying some jumps so I'd like to upgrade to a kitesurf board. I tried the Cabrinha Trigger 6'3" on Maui and liked it, but think I would like the North X-Surf better. D...
