Re: Launching solo

As far as the self-landing goes, well, I have actually practiced that quite a bit during my lessons.... my instructor has me set it right on it's side and shortening up the high side to dump that leading edge right into the sand or water. While this is the method I use 90% of the time solo understa...

Re: Crash vests, what do people use?

I would go with http://liquidforcekites.com/product/har ... reme-vest/ if you are wearing a RE harness. Most vests don't give much flotation but this one does.

I honestly don't understand why people kite without flotation.

Re: Launching solo

Honestly I'd be more concerned with your ability to land solo than launch, especially if the wind picks up and your are overpowered.

Re: On-shore vs Off-shore wave kite

Onshore: Can't wave ride(down-the line). This is not true. The term onshore means the wind vs. wave angle. Just because the wind and waves are aligned does not mean the shore is perpendicular. As long as you have a sandbar/reef/shoal that goes on a 45 degree angle to the wind + wave angle you can r...

Ronstan Parrel Beads for Fireball?

Anyone have any experience using a Ronstan parrel bead to connect to Fireball? The Fireball connector looks like a normal parrel bead with a cap on the bottom, but I'm wondering if it's structurally more sound? Ronstan parrel beads come in 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm and 32 mm. I haven't measured the Fireba...

Re: Weight difference

Be careful as losing struts you increase flutter which kills looping power so you end up with flying but powerless kite. I demoed a 17m Cloud once and it sucked ass. Backstalling, loops were weak. Took 15m Turbine instead and it worked. Ovserved same with a 10.5m Cloud vs 10m 5 strut North in La Ve...

It's a shame there aren't more videos of the heats available.

The Ocean Signal PLB1 is nice because it's the size of a cell phone.

I have yet to see a VHF that wouldn't be overly annoying to carry (including the water proof bag).

Re: Boosting only one way

Keep in mind that your local spot probably heavily favours a certain side for boosting because of the wind/wave angle and that might be why you have so much trouble boosting on your opposite side.

I find this is 10x more true when it comes to strapless airs too.
