Re: Oahu Dream Holiday

Oahu isn't exactly a kiteboarding mecca.

There is good kiting in 2 spots, Kailua and Mokuleia. Moks is more reliable wind in the summer but it's far to get to and remote once you are there.

I would get a rental in Kailua (there are no hotels there) and get a car so you can drive up to moks.

Re: Recommendations for Best instruction and user friendly place to learn to Foilboard this summer

Instead of paying for lessons on how to foil I would say just get a foil that's so easy you don't need lessons. Shinn MODEL P FOIL: https://www.shinnworld.com/copy-of-model-f-foil (I know the URL is stupid, it's actually the correct link for the model P) Get a 60 cm mast and you'll be foiling in no ...

Re: Busted Rib

I find it a lot harder to unhook while wearing a seat harness too because you can't adjust the angle of the hook with your body and there is always some upward pull from the kite because of the lower hook.

With a waist harness you just lean back after pushing down.

Re: Busted Rib

I find that the lower attach point of the seat harness that's almost at the same point of your body's center of gravity makes powered loops more challenging. The reason is that there is no effect of gravity pulling your legs back down below you due to the pull coming from your center of mass. So onc...

LF Happy/Rocket Mast vs. Impulse Mast?

Is there any compatibility between the Impulse mast and the happy/rocket mast?

I know they are different widths and thicknesses but I as long as the holes are the same pattern I would imagine you could ride the Happy/Rocket foil on the thinner Imulse mast couldn't you?

Re: Longboarding/Noserider with a kite?

I've ridden both SUP and longboard with a kite and it's pretty important that the water is relatively flat to make it fun. If it's choppy you just kind of slap the nose of the board against waves and you can't maneuver the board well enough to avoid the waves. If you have a decent ground swell comin...

Re: Launching solo

As far as the self-landing goes, well, I have actually practiced that quite a bit during my lessons.... my instructor has me set it right on it's side and shortening up the high side to dump that leading edge right into the sand or water. While this is the method I use 90% of the time solo understa...

Re: Crash vests, what do people use?

I would go with http://liquidforcekites.com/product/har ... reme-vest/ if you are wearing a RE harness. Most vests don't give much flotation but this one does.

I honestly don't understand why people kite without flotation.

Re: Launching solo

Honestly I'd be more concerned with your ability to land solo than launch, especially if the wind picks up and your are overpowered.

Re: On-shore vs Off-shore wave kite

Onshore: Can't wave ride(down-the line). This is not true. The term onshore means the wind vs. wave angle. Just because the wind and waves are aligned does not mean the shore is perpendicular. As long as you have a sandbar/reef/shoal that goes on a 45 degree angle to the wind + wave angle you can r...
