Re: 3D Printed Wings - please post your experiences here

Which printer do you have? I've been toying with the idea of printed wings, so following with great interest! I have an Anet A8, a very cheap one that I would not really recommend these days (fire hazard!). Now there are better options in the same price range. Like this: https://www.banggood.com/Cr...

Re: 3D Printed Wings - please post your experiences here

Is it solid?! I assumed it had a honeycomb interior with carbon skin around it. I was toying with the idea of using spray insulation foam to fill the voids. Not exactly solid. It has a thick skin with high percentage of infill, and a fiberglass skin on top. The part where it mates the fuselage is a...

You can safely move to C pulley line onto a knot on the rear main to extend Z.
Just asking to be sure I understand correctly.
So, no need to add pigtails to extend Z ?

Re: 3D Printed Wings - please post your experiences here

^ Ha Ha :-) Great to hear it worked..... eventually! I assume the sections were printed vertically? Joined with dowels or just glued butt joints? Any idea what the weight came out to be? Glued butt joint, but have three alignment holes with toothpicks. Printed vertically. Weight is about 900grams, ...

Re: 3D Printed Wings - please post your experiences here

Yesterday I had a friend test my first 3D printed and laminated wing for the first time. He reported that it did fly but not very good. Then I went there to test it myself, and was surprised to see this: reversed.JPG He had mounted it backwards! We had a good laugh and were surprised that it could f...

Re: DIY Thick surf foil wings

Thanks again for the info's. I confess to being I'm a relative newcomer to 3D printing (using FreeCad and Cura) but it does look like it is possible (though not super simple) to set different infills, in a single part, using Cura (see https://youtu.be/PUwf79wySUY). I haven't yet printed anything us...

Re: DIY Thick surf foil wings

I printed the back wings with 0.32mm layer height (highest possible with 0.4mm noozle). I used 4 outer shells and 80% infill. For the front wing I used Simplify3D and used its variable settings feature where you can set different infills and skin thicknesses for different Z heights. Do not have the ...

Re: DIY Thick surf foil wings

Is PETG the best material. I understand it is one of the few printing materials that absorbs water? Also does anybody know the best material to laminate onto? ie which does epoxy stick to best? PETG, and many other materials absorb moisture, but it is usually a problem while printing. I don't think...

Re: DIY Thick surf foil wings

Yes, I meant these back wings to work without lamination, and did try the first one straight out from the printer.
