Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

I would have assumed that with foils coming of age and progressing into the mainstream, a door would be pretty much as obsolete as a race board. This thread proves me wrong. ;-) If it's light wind without waves I'm foiling. If light wind with waves I still hold out hope for the 17m and high volume s...

Re: Which helmet?

There's a foiler in San Fran who wears a rugby scrum helmet. I am intrigued, as we wear wetsuit hoods most of the year, and this could fit under the hood.

Re: Impact vest with pockets

I had a neil pryde windsurf pdf that at least had a pocket for a whistle. A kayak pfd a good suggestion, as long as it's high enough not to impede a waist harness. For my impact vest, I sewed in an inside pocket at chest level for hook knife....if s**t hits the fan, I want it up high where I can rea...

Re: down wind foiling

If you don't want to loop, can keep line tension going downwind more with carving s turns, following the kite thorough turns. With S turns downwind, is your kite crossing the window? for me it is. But maybe we are talking about different things. I am not racing downwind. More like zigzaging in swel...

Re: down wind foiling

If you don't want to loop, can keep line tension going downwind more with carving s turns, following the kite thorough turns. Helps to have a strong drifting kite -- wave kites. But also: a larger kite to keep more power in the kite helps keep line tension. I suspect I may rig a kite size higher tha...

Re: Wave Riding with a Foil Limits

I am in the midst of experimenting with large wings, most for sup/paddle foil, but lately using it under a kite (Takuma clone). It has been fun to feel how fast it gets up onto foiling and interesting how slow its max speed is. Needs a really small kite, very underpowered, to work properly. There's ...

Re: Leaking Boston Valve

I have the same issue with a V3 Ozone Reo. The leak is coming from the top of the valve, not the base. So, it has to be from the one-way membrane that keeps the air in while pumping it up, right? I'm going to order just the red part with the membrane(less than $5) and hoping it does the trick. Am I...

Re: Foiling without a kite

yeah, the pumping is unfortunate ... as it looks terrible. If you are focused on outcomes, then it's a great means to an end: hard to argue with catching 11 waves in a row over 5 minutes without paddling. However, if you're into enjoying the overall journey, then there's about 4 of those 5 minutes s...

Re: How to turn a hydrofoil - and what is YAW ?

X2. Nicely said Jzh_perth. Wow. This topic - 8 pages on how to turn a Hydrofoil ? TLDR but for me carving the foil (after 3 years of foiling) is no different to carving a skateboard / snowboard. It’s all hips and knees and looking thru the turn to the exit. You can’t stamp down on the tail because t...
