SE started blowing about 2 months ago...but don't tell anyone..
True enough, but I can't be there all season, just over 2 months, which is enough to wear me out.

Here's local kid Oswald Smith showing how it is done.

Re: Nick Jacobsen leaves Cabrinha team

I sure hope so, I am staying through February 12 just to catch the KOTA. I have to say, from what I've seen of these guys in Cape Town, that video and Kevin's others truly show what they are like. Upbeat, cheerful, and full of fun. It's not just a show for the video. Inspiring bunch.

Re: What a classic kite video

Cool. A few years ago I was out there kiting and found my way to Mokuleia. When I got there Felix was the only one around and was very supportive, encouraging me to try riding strapless on an old surfboard I had bought. Later than day I not only got to try it and managed to ride, but watched Felix a...

Re: Vantage kites, is the revolution announced?

I have 2009 kites that I favor over kites half their age. Kite design has evolved, but not changed. This is a big problem for the industry, because it means there is often little compelling reason to update one's kites (apart from heavy wear for the lucky ones) - in that environment cost is biggest...

Re: Wetsuit recommendation Cape Town Nov/Dec?

Hpr and Van Hunk are right, 4/3 is fine. Some Euros ride with half length wetsuits cut off at the knees (is that what you mean by Overknee?). I like a full wetsuit. The alert about spending too much time in the water is relevant, and is a caution about going too far out. If something fails out there...

Re: 9m Naish Pivot

Lots of us! You are late to the party. See thread from 2015. For me, at 87kg I go down to my 7m Pivot in that wind range, no way I can hold a 9m like Kevin does in Cape Town, but then I am a lot older and weaker and nowhere near as good a kitesurfer, plus I far prefer downwinders to struggling back ...

Re: two board quiver

How about one board. A slingshot Converter board with foil, remove foil for waves, and then put straps on it for jumping in high winds. Compromise for all disciplines, but good enough at each to have some fun no matter the conditions. Three-kite quiver of 7, 9, and 12m should cover 10-30 knots. Not ...

Re: Great Kills kite surfer found dead along New Jersey coastline

He was not a kitesurfer, they got the story completely wrong. He was a windsurfer (very experienced from what I understand). https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=2073143702744331&id=129634753761912 Amazing a report could get it so wrong, but nothing new about that, I guess. The bottom ...

Re: Need a new term for being lofted horizontally!

Today in east central Illinois was super windy, and extremely gusty, with gusts recorded to 50mph on surrounding weather stations. We were all riding 5-6m kites. In addition to a couple of vertical loftings, I experienced something new. I was riding under reasonable control, kite at perhaps 30 degr...

Re: Cape Town - Blouberg/Big Bay Tips

Yes, you can walk upwind 100 yards and launch there, and ride upwind to join the fun. But what's really nice is downwinders from Sunset to Haakgat, and since you have a wife and a car, its perfect. No problem doing it yourself, I do it regularly (and catch the bus back). Don't hurry and enjoy the re...
