Re: Important Message: I almost died - Gunnar Biniasch

My buddies and I routinely look out for each other, especially anyone less experienced at our local lake in Illinois, or at Cape Hatteras, but what really impressed me when I started kiting in Cape Town ten years ago is the ready help from complete strangers when I had problems, like my center line ...

Re: My new project : iGetwind.com

That's very nice, thanks! Great to have the tides showing and the multiple sites in one window is great, especially when choosing whether to stay in Cape Town or head east.

Re: Boosting only one way

Same here, I really only jump decently on port. I learned that side first on flat water at Cape Hatteras, but it is also the side going out at Cape Town on the SEaster, so that has reinforced it. I actually feel unsafe jumping on starboard because my landings are not confident and at 62 I cannot aff...

Re: Researching kiteboarding locations

Given you can fly places easily, you have to go to the outer banks of North Carolina eventually, even though it is a pain when flying in (Norfolk is 3 hours north). And one day when you are competent, Hawaii and Cape Town are obviously both awesome.

Re: biggest regret purchase

My first two Naish C kites (9m and 15m) back in the day, sorry I don't recall the models. Both leaked so badly they were hopeless. Swore I'd never buy Naish kites again and managed to stick to that until the Pivot came along.

Re: How dangerous is this?

edt and tautologies, no vest on the kid, just a wetsuit. The big swells in sets were breaking pretty far out, as it was just after low tide. The conditions were such that the inside was all white foam from the sets coming in. I would have hated to have wiped out in one of the big waves, it would hav...

Re: SupaEZ Where have you been?

Just for the record, I thank Toby for this site. I've learned a ton from it. I also post on Sailing Anarchy, and that place is pretty wild sometimes. They have multiple moderators but like here there is one guy who started and owns the site, and he lets pretty much anything go.

Re: How dangerous is this?

Downunder, I did that with my daughter back when she was that age, but not on blacks. BWD, I understand, but it was a chill situation on the beach, I was still in all my kiting gear, pretty obviously not a danger to the kid, and he did a few more runs while I was talking to her, and didn't seem conc...

Re: Pivot Unbaised Review. Good Kite For Surf?

Great to read this thread. I bought my 2015 9m Pivot based on the original Pivot thread here. I did not know anyone with one or test ride it. I love that kite. At my level of skill, which is not the greatest, and I'm 62, it has made kiting so much easier in all departments. Riding strapless, or powe...

How dangerous is this?

I was riding at Kite Beach at Bloubergstrand in Cape Town yesterday, Saturday April 14, and saw something that seemed pretty dangerous to me. The conditions were pretty intense, with the SEaster blowing good enough for 9m and by the time i quit good for 7m, and large sets were coming through, maybe ...
