Let's have a kite party | SoCal

As with all good things in nature wind and waves don’t know the difference between Monday and Sunday. So, looking for an excuse leaving office during the week the term ‘ board meeting ‘ was born. To kick off the season, celebrate a birthday and give you guys a chance to show some face (instead of a ...

Re: Waterproof your kite?

I've used neverwet on an e-z up 12x12. I would say that the square footage of this canopy would be similar to 8/9m kite?! Anyway. I needed 2 cans to cover the canopy. It dries up a bit hazy/milky, definitively not clear, and it feels a bit sticky. Yes, water pearls off nicely, but exposure to UV des...

Re: New kites and liability insurance.

Also the given ´keep it safe´ suggestion to spend half an hour flying and tuning a brand new kite in land does not make much sense to me, as there is not much tuning outside the flying wind envelop and powered kites are better flown in the water. I kinda' feel responsible for that statement since I...

Re: New kites and liability insurance.

There are a few types of insurance under the umbrella of Product Liability. The one being discussed here would focus on that policy covering Manufacturing Defects. There are other policies or disclaimers for unintentional use, dangerous product, etc. That's what the warnings on kites are about. I h...

Re: New kites and liability insurance.

Yep, I have. However, mostly in Germany. Due to my masters degree in law comparisons of abglo-american common law and civil law I assumed that, like in other areas, the liability rules are to some extend universal. Oversimplified: If you make a faulty product as a producer, you are liable for the d...

Re: New kites and liability insurance.

I think, a lot of you guys (and general consumers) are under the false impression that a liability insurance of a manufacturer will cover you. It may or may not, but that also depends where you live and where an accident would happen (God forbid). Maybe I should share my $.02 here. In the US and wit...

Re: New kites and liability insurance.

I agree that the liability is with the kite manufacturer. At least most of it, around 80-90%. Being a lawyer and a kitesurfer myself there is absolutely no reason why a customer should test the kite for faults by the company. The customer can actually trust in the product being produced properly. T...
