Re: Playa del carmen Kite

We stayed at the Dreams in Puerto Morelos last Feb. Wind was light most days, but still got in 3 nice sessions. There was a stretch of beach next door perfect to set up on, I think it was a public portion. Lots of people on the beach and you had to avoid the swimming areas of course. Other than that...

Re: Are we all jacking up our necks???

La Ventana in spring.... and your surprised? Crashes are one thing, but ergonomics are another. Kiting is no different than cycling or skiing or any other weekend warrior sport favored by middle aged people. I would say that at least half the general kiteboarding population are less than fit, and d...

Re: so i tried kitesurfing, seems dangerous.

OK thx and assuming I get that 14m kite at my weight what is the max wind speed before I would need a 2nd smaller kite? At 220+, I've ridden the last few years with a 14 and 11. Combined with a large and medium board, I can ride 90% of the wind here. I just picked up an 8 and a smaller board for th...

Re: Warning about the cheap GoPro mounts

Bought one of those kits with multiple mounts an other accessories for GoPro, half of them are already broken. Be wary of the floats that come with backdoor included, mine failed on me in the ocean and let salt water in. Camera was pooched for two days before I luckily got it working again. $350 cam...

Re: Twintip Advice for Heavy Rider

See if you can try out a Shinn King Gee. Picked one up last year, best money I've spent in kiting so far. I'm 225lbs and my main kite is a 14m. It's touted as a light wind board for heavier riders, its got a little rocker and jumps fairly well. Mine is the 146/46 and I've used it in 20 kts with a sm...

Re: Why doesn't everybody side rig their lines in launch position?

My method of launch tends to be site specific. At one site I rig my lines downwind, walk 90 deg to kite and launch. Another spot I rig upwind and roll my lines up and self water launch or get someone to walk with my kite into the water and launch. Another spot I usually rig upwind roll the lines up ...

Re: Is Playa del carmen still kiteable

Stayed at the Azul Fives last Feb and I was able to kite just north of the hotel on a undeveloped section. Had some great advice from a few local kiters regarding the current there. Wind was okay but up and down. Got three sessions in on a 14 and briefly on an 11. Lots of traffic on the beach there,...

Re: Which kite has the best bag?

+1 for the Switch kite bag, lots of room, pockets, even comes with a spare pump valve attachment tethered into the front pocket and a repair kit. One thing I've noticed on all my kite bags, coats, kids bags etc., are the CRAPPY zippers we are all being subjected to these days. FFS isn't there a comp...
