Re: Kiting Through The Lineup

Greenskeeper Spangler is a wealth of wisdom. "I'd say play, the hard stuff is not going to come for a while." unfortunately can't be used as the hard stuff is here. In the local area, if you actually do surf and kitesurf in waves, there are always going to be some surfers. It comes down to giving t...

Re: Gunnar Biniasch (Ram Lover Team Rider) & Ram Lies

OK ram lovers, we need to do this . . . After a video has been posted, we can then talk about formalising the wager . . . Let's see the vid first. PMU. Let me get this straight: You'll agree to make the wager ONLY if Gunnar posts a video that proves he can win the bet using your specific guidelines...

Re: Gunnar Biniasch (Ram Lover Team Rider) & Ram Lies

How about this: - Kiting takes place at a well-known spot (thus less chance for tricks). This could be at one of the tour stops that the Flysurfer and other teams already plan to go to. Something to do on those comp days that just don't work out. - Wind measured at ground level (holding head high) -...

Re: Have you developed whiplash symptoms?

I've definitely had them, but fortunately nothing since this trio in 2007. I think I've avoided them since then by starting to nail nearly all of my (big air/high power jump) landings and just heaps more time in surf to improve wave knowledge/decision making. Has anyone out there experienced these? ...

Re: Heel straps - advice please!

I've been using cut-up medium sized bicycle tubes for my heel-straps for a few years. The major advantage of these (other than cost) is that when one foot comes out and you get in a situation that could twist your ankle/knee, they stretch quite far and the other foot easily comes-out of the strap. T...

Re: BIG AIR KITELOOPS - Need Help Learning this Hooked Type

A 10m is to big. Fine for downloops, or top of the jump kiteloops, or a loop on landing but for powered, out of control, barely holding your edge pull the trigger on take off loops they will never do. I have loved kiteloops ever since i saw ruben going crazy at big bay. I couldnt even hold my edge ...

Re: BIG AIR KITELOOPS - Need Help Learning this Hooked Type

I hadn't tried a kiteloop in a very long time (I'm just a surf/big-air warrior), but I got inspired by this thread to give it a go the other day. On my PL Venom 10 in low 20's wind, I waited until near my peak, pulled the trigger, and committed. Man, does that kite pull like a frigging truck when lo...

Re: How can the new FLYSURFER change projected area for depower?

BTW, the 2007 Peter Lynn Scorpion has a very pronounced change in PA when you power-up as well. It works differently, though, as the "normal" riding position is with the kite in "C" shape and the tip-flare flattening occurs only when pulling to full power/near stall. This is part of what makes it su...

Re: Where can I learn to Kitesurf in Southern California?

Try Monkey Air Kitesurfing in Malibu http://www.monkeyair.com . They've been around since the beginning of the sport and have an excellent team of very experienced instructors. They will also let you try out many different kite brands/designs so you get a better understanding of the trade-offs befor...

Let's do some real analysis on "tough" kites

Well, let's define "tough". To me it means three things: (a) resistance to tearing, or breakage of any kind that makes the kite unusable (or worse, dangerous), (b) ease of repair when something in the first category happens, and (c) durability (given good treatment like not leaving a pumped-up kite ...
