Re: World Sailing AGM confirms Kiteboarding for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

I guess it all comes down to obsolescence, because the carbon seems to last forever. Like most things where designs stabilize, prices of new will hopefully start to come down or stop increasing at least. Anyway, I think we are going to see big growth in local foil racing now, it’s just so much fun t...

Re: World Sailing AGM confirms Kiteboarding for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Coaching, travel, lost income from not working, etc - these are the main costs of competing at a high level in any sport. The foiling equipment annual cost is modest by comparison especially since designs are stabilizing and gear is holding its value. Does the value of a used Mike’s even go down?

Re: Where to find good info on racing foils?

Not a lot of info out there it seems, the tacking and gybing advice above is right on. Also use lobster or other buoys while on the water to practice rounding marks and to figure out your laylines for different wind strengths/ kites. Some other things I have learned: keep the kite low while going up...

Re: How to build a carbon wing in a 2 part mold?

Make some paper templates that fit in the mould. Wet out the carbon on some plastic sheeting. Put more plastic on top then using the templates cut the carbon and plastic with a razor blade. Transfer to the mould and peel off the plastic

Re: Will it be strong enough

I have built several boards, current one is the best so far. XPS core 140x41x7, 1cm pvc foam under feet and foil, 100gr carbon uni strips on deck between feet, 200gr carbon weave top and bottom with 2 extra patches under foil. Pigmented west system micro sphere resin mix to finish, sand and done. 2....

Re: Is anyone else buying carbon credits to offset CO2 from travel?

I understand the impulse to see conspiracy everywhere but I think in reality the universe is just complicated. modelling complex systems is hard. But we do know some things, we know how the greenhouse effect works, we know global average temps and sea levels are increasing, and we can see that this ...

Re: Corrosion on Aluminium parts (Moses fuselage)

been riding Moses for over a year now. The white spots on the fuse you see after riding are usually grease spots that are originating from the screw connections. Clean with some soap and green scrubby pad and they will be gone. However as Rolf said, after a lot of riding you might get some corrosion...

Re: Seaweed (sargasso) 2018 a bad year

I am in the VIrgin Islands at the moment, the sargasso is definitely here and starting to fill some of the Windward facing bays but it’s not a big deal yet. I was out on the foil and it was fine away from the shore, just need to go around some of the bigger patches. The foil seems to go thru the sma...

Re: Foiling. What next?

Into my 3rd year of foiling now. One thing that has made a huge difference is getting on a 110 mast. Basically I don’t have those painful high speed crashes anymore because the wing almost never ventilates. I rode a short mast again for a while on the weekend, is was pretty brutal, my ribs still hur...
