Wait! I live in California, and I've always wanted to open a kite shop in England. I'm not sure if it's windy or if there's any other kite shops there. I don't even know the names of the towns with beaches...

In the SF Bay area, there's a group organizing Beach Stewards, volunteer kiters who will try to discourage the type of actions that are getting kiting banned other places. The people who think kiting is an "individual's sport" are the ones who need to buy a boat. Most people need/want help with laun...

I'm curious how often those bad accidents happened when multiple people were on the water. I remember that Shannon's lofting happened after all the locals at the site had fled the water. Kiting with other people, talking to them before launching about kite size, watching them while kiting, all seem ...

I'm not sure about the Samurai2, but most 4 line power kites like that use handles, which you won't be using at all in kitesurfing. They use them for buggying etc. Most 4line kites made to be flown with handles don't work with a 4 line bar such as we use in kitesurfing. Stick with a 2 line trainer w...

La ventana

I was at La Ventana last year in December. It blew every day for seven days. The day we drove there from Cabo, we drove past Barrilles and there was no wind. At La Ventana, there were kites as far as the eye could see. You would have Barrilles mostly to yourself if it was windy when you were there, ...

If the kite is acting differently than it did when you first got it, your lines are stretched. You need to check your lines and make sure they are all the same length. Also, you may need to change which pigtail knot you are attaching the back lines to. I have an '04 Spectrum, and I know that those k...

Starting on snow

Went out on snow for the first time this Sunday, in South Lake Tahoe. I learned how to kiteboard on water this summer and fall, but I think the water guys might be missing something. I have skiied my whole life, so for me, kiting on the snow was so much easier than on the water. No need to have the ...

Just got back from La Ventana, If you're kiting already, you probably know to teach your brother how to fly a trainer first... thats the first thing they'd teach him in the lesson. Seemed to me there were several good kite schools down there, inncluding ones that shuttle you back down the beach on A...
