Re: Splicing kite lines for beginners

I used copper wire to make a lineset. It bends back onto itself nicely without breaking, but is plenty stiff to push or pull through as you are making your splices. I rounded off the ends of the wire to prevent it catching on strands. As others have said, definitely spend some time practicing before...

Re: Could someone please invent a better way to self land a kite in high wind.

I'm in the 90% self launch/land group. It's always a tether for me, unless the wind gets so ridiculously light that it won't pick the kite up off the beach (Cloud). Tether works great in high wind. I carry a spare tether line made from flying line with me in case I end up having to come in somewhere...

Re: North Nugget as foilboard?

A lot of people over here converted the nugget and similar boards (such as the space pickle) to foil decks. It works well. You need to reinforce the board around the box for the foil mast, though.

Re: Chicken Loop Bye Bye?

Nice bar. I do not understand why you would opt for this depower setup. You must kite in an area that doesn't have frequent fluctuations in windspeed in the range of 5 knots up and down... Of course you could handle that with bar throw, but that is IMHO not the preferred option with respect to your...

Re: making a new control bar

Personal favourite release mechanism is the BRM Cloud system. I've customised mine, but the principle is the same. Really simple, great idea and it works well. No more chickenloop, so you can extend your bar throw if you wish. Or not. The release mechanism is also how you disconnect from the kite wh...

Re: Where is good spot to learn wave kitesurfing?

Forget Cape Town. CPT is for goofy, waves for left. The wind is extremely strong. It's a good spot for experienced riders. Theres constant swell with massive waves. The only problem I had there was the wind. Most of time I was overpowered with the 5m and sometimes waiting days for some wind. I'm a ...

Re: Sewing line loops...

I disagree, sleeving is essential for kitesuring lines. Where the knot connects to the kite you get salt and sand in the knot and movement. My lines have just been changed and the sleeving had worn through to the while dyneema, without that sleeving the lines would have snapped long ago. The reason...

Re: The Ultimate Wetsuit !?

I used O'Niel Heat 4/3 for 9 years - went through 3 of them. Found that they were fine. Never had an issue with the seams - the neoprene over the shoulders would get thin and eventually crack. I got given a 40% Patagonia discount, and had heard a few people rave about them so decided to give it a tr...

Re: at what height kite lines cross when looping

There is another option. Instead of reinforcing the lines where they cross, you can learn to spin the bar at the same time as you loop the kite. Then they will never cross. This is what I do. When looping the kite, you first do a half turn of the bar in the direction in which the kite will loop. The...
