Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

To my fellow Colorado folk: I stopped at Strawberry Reservoir last week driving to SLC ... kiting meca!! I've kited most of the major spots in CO, but Strawberry knocks them all out of the water... a lake the size of dillon with full snow cover, + all the surrounding hills are barren of trees with 9...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

has anyone ever gone up into TomBoy basin to explore?

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Nice! Backcountry conditions in the Elks have been really good, but limited wind the last few weeks.
Hoping to make another trip down to the San Juans this season!

Re: Where to Snow Kite in the Rockies This Week? (Dec 16-20)

Dillon isn't frozen yet- so that's off the list.
I was way impressed by the Bighorn, WY location- but having partners and a sled are pretty key.
otherwise- the San Juans are in (as mentioned by matt)- there is plenty of snow already.

Check out UpSki on Kickstarter

This has been my project over the last few years. I started snowkiting years ago- but for high mountain wind powered ascent- I'm hooked on UpSki: http://www.upski.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/UpSki-Kickstarter-Flier-small.jpg We're raising funds through Kickstarter for our demo equipment and promo...

Re: How many snowkiters are in North America?

In Colorado I'd think a solid 200+... but many are really just water kiters who dabble.
In the Elks, I think there are a dozen or so part timers. There are more in the Eagle valley - summit county: but probably less than 100. Not sure about the Boulder/Denver area but surely more than 100

Re: The Bighorn Snowkite Summit!...Jackson Hole Kiters...

Any updates on the event?

I'd like to come up and bring some demo gear on behalf of UpSki (UpSki.com).
Is that ok?
Thanks - Kevin kevin@UpSki.com

Re: Foil is getting sluggish - is it the lines or the wing?

Inspect everything!! Kite: starting with your internal cell walls... High wind crashes can easily tear the internal structure of a kite... look inside each opening of the leading edge and look up and down the entire length. If you can't look in through the leading edge... look closely at it while fl...

Re: How to clip in using a climbing harness

It doesn't matter where you clip... follow Billy's advice on that... but make sure and use a locking biner... and lock it! (even better - use an Auto-locker) I do NOT recommend the BD coulior harness (or BD bod harness) for kiting... it does not provide enough support (specifically when on a hard ta...
