LA

I am amazed nobody here has mentioned L.A. I mean, the thread was about BIG cities with Kiting. S.F. is hands-down the best kiting for any major city. No question. But L.A. is #2. Thermal winds from late spring to late fall, and clearing winds off and on all winter long. Waves and downwinders in Nor...

lightwind power

VESKU --

Thanks for the review. One major question: how powered were you in the lightest wind during your session?

Put simply, could you park and ride upwind in 10 knots?

Or did you have to work the kite to keep going/go downwind?

I'm curious.

Thanks,

Alex

lightwind

You are a beginner, right? I have the LF Drop. You want to get a bigger board. At least 140-150, wide, and very low rocker. Lots of guys on this forum like the flat plywood boards. I'd suggest: Underground wave tray 157 x 40 Underground FLX 152 x 42 Litewave Freestyle 145 x 43 (I haven't ridden it b...

2 board solution

I have two boards-- 1) Underground Wave Tray 157 x 40 2) Liquid Force Drop 136 x 40 The UG has flip tips, giving it the effective edge of a 150. I use the UG in light winds, and when I'm at the lower range of my smaller kite. It does require a lot of effort ot hold it down when powered up--once you ...

Laird Hamilton

I heard Laird was one of the first guys to kite. I've never seen him kiting up in Malibu, where he hangs out a lot. I have seen him paddleboard surfing on a 12 footer at Point Dume. It's insane. He catches the wave before it even peaks. Is that true about Slater?? If so, that's cool. The best surfer...

Email Traig Trumbo!

As far as I can tell, PL Kiteboarding is not run like an aggressive/competitive/marketing-oriented business. PL himself seems to be this genius designer/tinkerer who made a great design--the arc or twin skin--and his son and others have run with it. They will never be competitive with major LEI comp...

I think it's about feel...

I have never owned a custom board, but have ridden a Jimmy Lewis custom. It wasn't just how much lighter the board was, it was the feel. I'm no expert, but custom boards are lighter and I'm guessing they have better feel because of a more finely-tuned flex pattern. I bought a Liquid Force Drop, whic...

PL kites -- better for newbies

I read this discussion with interest because a newbie woman had a kitemare last week where I kite. She broke her femur and her hip when she smashed into a concrete berm. I was told she crashed her kite on the sand and it relaunched hot and yanked her up the beach. This woman made many mistakes, the ...

Still can't get on the website

Can Anyone???

I'd like to know more about what everyone is yelling at each other over, but I cannot log on to the website by typing the URL directly or by any of the plentiful links.

WTF?

One of you technologically skilled people could shed some light?

Good Things about Best

Seems like Best Kiteboarding has been a lightning rod ever since they came on the scene. I don't fly best kites, i fly Peter Lynns right now (which lots of guys on this forum like to bash ) and I love the new venoms. Say what you want about Best -- they may be somewhat brash, with the Tits and Ass m...
