Re: Main strut construction - cores

Thanks for all the input.

Sounds like core is a non-issue, since we're aiming towards the 12mm size fin. We'll try a few construction methods, test, and report back for those who are interested.

Main strut construction - cores

There's some information scattered around different threads, but I'm hoping to find some more details on main vertical construction - specifically related to the build of higher end production foils. I'll be using prepreg carbon in female molds, cured in an autoclave. Ideally I'd like to flange the ...

Re: Tuttle box vs. mounting plate

Thanks guys, sounds like a box is the way to go! I am inexperienced with board building, but have a lot of composite design time. Any idea which box is typically used in the current boards (or windsurfers)? Online, I'm finding a $60 composite Waterat, or a $10 plastic Chinook option. Either way I'll...

Tuttle box vs. mounting plate

It seems that most production foils have a flat plate with screw holes for attaching to the board, though some are now mounting with Tuttle boxes. In my mind, the plate style is easier to build strong, and can be attached to a variety of boards. The Tuttle system is simpler, less draggy, but demands...

Re: Foil design details

Thanks everyone. Has anyone doing a home build had the chance to measure one of the high aspect production foils - Sword, Spotz etc? I'm specifically interested in the foil section. Are they symmetrical or asymmetric? My understanding of the anhedral is that it is more unstable, but reduces the risk...

Foil design details

I'm in the process of designing a home built foil and was hoping those with more exposure would be able to help out a bit. There are no foils nearby to examine, and I'm curious as to what foil section, chord length, aspect ratio, area, AOA, etc have proven to be most successful. Additionally, is the...
