Re: Core and German engineering meme

I skimmed through this thread and the other Core thread this morning. As it affects my purchasing decisions, I have two main takeaways: 1. The sample size of complaints about Core products is too small for me to conclude that they are generally poorly made, but it’s absurd for a kite manufacturer to...

Re: Need a new term for being lofted horizontally!

Launching an 18 in 30 knots is stupid. I launch in gusts max 25. But then if the wind picks up I stay out and stand my man 😀 Putting up an 18m kite in 25kn gusts is mind blowing to me. I’m pretty much foiling exclusively these days, and I’d be flying a 4m in that wind. Foiling has its own risks, bu...

Re: Kite bladder blowout, any thoughts?

You don’t show a picture of the fabric tear, but I would guess the LE fabric seam failed and caused the bladder blowout. Similar thing happened to me recently. The guys at Airtime said LE bladder can only handle 2-3 psi unsupported by fabric and fabric tears can cause a buldge in the bladder that po...

Re: Best way to add bolt threads in the board for the mast when building board?

Tee nut on top is stronger. Keeps full board in compression and spreads loads to deck and bottom. Also easy to inspect and repair. Nut hidden in middle of core relies on core strength, so needs much more core reinforcement. And if it starts to break, you won’t know, until it fails completely. Also,...

Re: Best way to add bolt threads in the board for the mast when building board?

You can mount inserts from the deck, just make sure they are in a solid column of epoxy so loads are spread between deck and bottom laminate. Or you can get long nuts or specialty fasteners somewhere, admittedly a pain... Sorry for all the noob board builder questions, but I have one more: If using...

Re: Best way to add bolt threads in the board for the mast when building board?

I’m going to be building a basic wood foil board made out of pawlownia glassed 6oz top and bottom. I’m going to use stainless t-nuts for the foil mount inserts. Dumb question, probably, but should I put the t-nuts in before or after glassing? If before, I would assume I’d need to cover the female e...
