Re: Hatteras to get another new bridge......this one sucks.

Yeah if anyone that lives in Rodathe/Waves can keep us updated on the construction that would be great. We're kicking around the idea of a last minute fall trip to Rodanthe if we can pull it off before the bridge goes in! Thanks in advance. Poacher, my advice is to plan that trip. The bridge isn't ...

Re: Hatteras to get another new bridge......this one sucks.

Anyone explored Naggs Head launch/riding options? Nags Head/KDH areas have good kiting on ocean and sound. The old Windmill Point site (now the event center - roughly MP 16.5) is still accessible and kiting is good on S, SW, N and NW wind directions. Best soundside riding on SE wind (also S and SW)...

Re: Hatteras to get another new bridge......this one sucks.

Owning a house on Hatteras Island is a risk no matter where it's located. The next hurricane could eliminate 100% of value. We can't change the natural progression of the oceans......witness the houses in Mirlo that have been relocated or condemned or already fallen into the sea. It's useful to read...

Re: Hatteras to get another new bridge......this one sucks.

Jakemoore, if you've spent extended time on Hatteras Island, you'll know that the current highway gets washed out and closed all the time. Continuing to pour tax dollars into maintaining a highway location that won't last is not logical. The new bridge and causeway will provide reliable access to Ha...

Re: Trouble finding board after crash

If you use a Go Joe, don't let it become a crutch. Use it to help spot your board, but don't use it as a propulsion device. In other words, once you spot your board, practice your body dragging back and forth to retrieve the board. Don't just wait for the wind and current to drive the Go Joe downwin...

Re: Florida in December - where is better ?

Wind: The Keys will give you more consistent and reliable wind. For kiting, December is usually a good month for Florida, in general. Lunch: I can't comment on "lunch spots" (if I'm kiting, I skip lunch). Crowds: There are fewer launch spots in the Keys than in the Tampa Bay area (if you include Ft....

Re: What is the international signal for "Abort launch"?

I'm always amazed how many kiters don't use the thumbs-up for launch. I have seen at least 3-4 kiters just this week who either nod their head, yell "okay" or "let it go", or just stand their waiting for the person holding the kite to decide when to let it go. These are not beginners. They are exper...

.....what is the international signal for abort the launch, something is wrong?
Based on the variety of responses, I guess there is no "international signal" for abort. Lots of good ideas though.

Re: Cabrinha Contra 17 or 19m?

... The 2018 Contra 19 m has more lower end grunt than the 2017 Apollo 16 m as might be expected. Despite the greater size the 19 m Contra has a smaller kite feel keeping things fun and functional. The wind range on both kites is good particularly the upper end with the 2017 Apollo. As a generality...
