Re: Gear that has exceeded your expectations!

To eliminate the boredom, maybe try a totally new angle in the sport, not just new equipment similar to your old stuff. By that, I mean approach the sport differently. If you've never tried hydrofoiling, maybe that's the answer. Or try a buggy or landboard, or plan a snowkiting trip. I have always u...

Re: North twintip at Canadian Hole (OBX)

I hope the board gets back to its owner. I also hope the owner learns from this experience and puts name and number on the board. :thumb:

Re: How to fall correctly?

Sergei, I'm not sure the carryover from snowboarding to kiteboarding is going to help much. As said in previous posts, kiteboarding is 90% about the kite, which (of course) is not a factor in snowboarding. Balance on a snowboard depends on counteracting gravity (plus dealing with changes in terrain ...

Re: How to fall correctly?

I think a beginner should let go of the bar to let the kite depower and fall to the water. As others have said, this reduces the chance of an unwanted kiteloop or deathgrip-full-power. Once a kiter is more experienced with good kite control skills, it's usually preferable to keep both hands on the b...

Re: Help settle a bet

Looping won't wear out your kite sooner, IMHO, but it may wear out your lines sooner (due to friction generated by crossed lines).

Re: The joys of valves leaking

Last week, I repaired 6 leaky valves on my buddy's 2011 Cabrinha Switchblade. He kites about one week per year, and stored the kite in a hot basement. All kites have the leaky valve problem after a while, and the problem is accelerated with hot storage conditions. Sometimes it makes sense to replace...

Re: Why do I need a much bigger board AND bigger kite for a heavier rider?

The size of kite and board depends a lot on (1) level of experience and (2) riding style. A beginner needs a larger board than a proficient rider. An airstyle rider needs a larger kite than a wakestyle rider. I think these variables are more important than the weight of the rider.

Re: Leading Edge Bulge

Yes, there probably are differences among manufacturers in the dacron weight used for leading edges, and probably also differences among kite models within a single manufacturer (e.g., a light wind kite might have thinner dacron to eliminate unnecessary weight). But I'd think LEB is also a function ...

Re: Affordable Kite - Highest Jump - Longest Hangtime

...... I think I have narrowed down to a Switch Nitro/Element or a North Rebel(2018). Thoughts? Someone also said that height and hangtime were probably not going to come from the same kite. So if I had to choose, I would lean towards hangtime. Contrary to the earlier comment, you absolutely can ge...
