Re: What's the dumbest thing you have seen a newbie do?

When I was a newbie in 2007, there was a popular video with an outdated section that said to always launch unhooked. This may have been okay with older kites, but was definitely the wrong advice for the "new" 4-line sheetables. A lot of us (including me) saw the video and tried to launch unhooked (i...

Re: If you can get rid of any style of kiteboarding, what style would you possibly get rid of and why?

LOL no, this is for a college assignment. I am writing a report about kitesurfing and some of the challeges we face like bans, danger, and problems within our own community. Trying to give a real life demonstration of the situations we encounter. Okay, HellYeah, you get the benefit of the doubt. Bu...

I smell a troll. If you are really in high school and started kiting in 2008 you must have been about 6 years old when you started. hmmm...
+1 :thumb: Add to that the fact that "Hatteras SC" doesn't even exist. Def a troll.

Re: 2 kites quiver: 8m and 12m?

Two kite quiver is fine with multiple boards. I used a 8/11 quiver with three boards for a while. It was a good fit except on the most extreme days (super light wind or nuking). I wouldn't want a two kite quiver with only one board, and I'd prefer the 8/11 combination to 8/12 at your weight, but go ...

Re: Advice for a beginner

Hey, Chad AP. Here's a caveat to what edt said. I agree with edt that every major kite manufacturer has a good basic beginner-to-intermediate level kite, and it doesn't matter too much which manufacturer's product you buy. (I think this is what edt means.) But it DOES matter which kite model/design ...

2009 16m liquid force havoc
Funny thing about this one, jespin. I once bought a used 16m Havoc (think it was 2008) for a couple hundred bucks. I thought it was the best purchase ever (at the time). Saved me on a lot of light wind days. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :thumb:

Re: biggest regret purchase

Probably sounds cheesy, but I have no regrets. I usually don't buy on impulse, and I research before buying. Once I take the plunge, I tend to rationalize my purchases so I focus on the good, not the bad (cognitive dissonance theory in action?). I guess I've liked some kites or boards better than ot...

Re: Go easy on a Noob! Just getting started in the sport.

Do you kite near Daytona? From what I can tell, Ponce Inlet is the preferred kite spot in the area. Trying to get a feel for wind conditions so I can start sizing my first kite. Ponce if good. From Daytona, you can also go north to Matanzas Inlet or Huguenot Park. Also, a lot of people just kite fr...

Hey, ChadAP. Does your wife like photography, too? After you start ripping up the Atlantic shoreline around Daytona, you'll need someone to capture those action shots for you. :thumb: Welcome to the forum, and to the sport.
