Re: Kite size recommendations for first foil kite?

performance penalty is meaningless compared to the performance penalty you incur when you can't ride around the course without falling. So having an easier to fly, less-performative kite to start out is a good idea because you can master the "dry race." Once you're firmly in the "dry fleet" at rega...

Re: Which is your preferred trim system?

I also like this "no trim" approach specially for small kite and high AR kites ; but sometimes the trim can still be comfortable ; so I am currently working on a "rear-line-simple-and-cheap" trim system and let you know if it is actually doing the job ; for sure less rapid and user-friendly as a cla...

Re: Which is your preferred trim system?

I like the principe of UDS that Zeeko put on bars some years ago. I made one by myself on custom home made bar. The bigest advantage is that there is nothing flaping in the wind or tangling the depower rope. To me it is an excellent system for people that need to depower specially in light wind and ...

Re: Kite Lines: which ones are used by the pro?

Thanks for your sharing. Today i tried with my "old tool " , i.e. one of the two thinner guitar chord (i can't remember, B or G as you said maybe, i am a drummer ... ) rolled on a champagne plug as a handle . It worked far better than what i remember from my last experience : 20180811_111524.jpg Cer...

Re: Kite Lines: which ones are used by the pro?

I found my 0.8 mm SK99 lines , great ; Now I need to splice them and need tips ! My last 0.8 mm line I did a auto-bloquing splice (one line crossing the other and vice-versa like this : https://www.riggingdoctor.com/life-aboard/2015/12/24/mobius-brummel-eye-splice but result is not as strong ; so I ...

Re: short lines

That is all right ! This also means that : - in long lines, kite loops closer to the middle of the wind window=More powerful - for a loop in the same wind window angle you need to pull less on one line with long lines = more powerful since better L/D ratio of te kite = more speed and power. This is ...

Re: Foil kite waterstarting in low and marginal wind

Interesting....but this seems far more likely to create a stall and dropped kite vs a loop with continuous motion into the direction of travel and uninterrupted air flow. Also the potential that your stall to near the surface of the water results in not being able to get the kite past it's own weig...

Re: Kite size recommendations for first foil kite?

Interest of foilkite is mainly light wind so i would chose between 10 and 12. Race kite (which Soul is not part of) require a bit more surface vs freeride foilkite to start planning. In addition racers main aim is to improve their vmg which requires higher sizes to allow sheeting-out while riding (t...

Re: Foil kite waterstarting in low and marginal wind

Is looping a must in marginal conditions? Generally yes but this depends a bit on kite model and line length. Alternativelly with a race kite like yours, you can force the backstall of the kite (by pulling rear line floaters) to have the kite going backward up to 1 meter of the water level (in the ...

Re: Marginal wind kites ?

Indeed. If we focus on extreme marginal wind , lines less than 20m is not part of the game (and Sonic 2 is to me not on the podium neither)
