Re: Channels on a surfboards

BTW, the convex shape of the board bottom is a kind of a channel. However, advantages of convex shape are much easier to believe, because it is a smooth curve (and therefore much more likely to be a solution of an optimization problem). For convex channel, the optimal number of channels can't be an...

Re: Liquid Force compatible surf foil wing

The "shovel" wing proved to be very good design proven by the fact that they didn't change it in three successive generations. However, I wonder how did LF miss the whole surf/sup hype -- all they needed to do is to make a bigger shovel wing with blunt LE. Out of curiosity, what is the shovel surfac...

Re: Channels on a surfboards

...in case of deep concaves or channels that effectively change the rocker in the center as compare to the rails... This one I can buy, especially that OR kiteboards proved to be very popular. One can also argue that concave improves edging. However, you know what? It is single concave. And when bo...

Re: Channels on a surfboards

...Channels of various sorts are %100 proven to work in many different hydrodynamic aspects. Look at water skis, look at boats, look at finless park wakeboards, look at basically any performance watercraft and you'll see channels or chines of some sort... Citation needed. Look, if channels are in a...

Re: Channels on a surfboards

There are holes for 5 fins at the OP images. I bet nobody ever mounted all 5 fins at once, so in terms of performance I would have more worried about turbulence caused by those open fin holes than channels. And the fact that nobody cares about this turbulence implies that the effect is minuscule. To...

Re: Chinese KB Hydrofoil : 300 USD + shipment

... All they [chinese copies] do is to suck resources out of an already small industry. You have it backwards. The industry is small because you want to keep your profit margins ridiculously high. Every time a vendor decreases sale price the volume goes up. Abusing automotive analogy, one may think...

Re: Chinese KB Hydrofoil : 300 USD + shipment

Preaching never works 100%, so the kite/hydrofoil industry better find some solution to the problem. Having said that, Real $599 is indeed very good deal. Let me enumerate what you would have get there (and won't with aliexpress): 1. Case 2. Wing covers 3. A mast that has 4 times better torsion resi...

Re: Dihedral stabilizers

Are we talking the same terms? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_principal_axes I never tried short fuselage (will try DYI extra long with JNJ wings next Spring), but would speculate that fuselage length is affecting pitch, not yaw stability. I'd further suggest that second generation LF improv...

Re: Dihedral stabilizers

Stabilizer main function is pitch stability. For that matter, yaw stability is the duty of the mast, and roll stability is responsibility of the main wing. Dihedral (or anhedral) stabilizer makes no sense whatsoever.

Re: New North Foil's 'PA Carbon Mix 50'

Also the mounting screws could have been designed to be further apart: it looks like the distance between the first and the third hole is less than half of the wing chord length:
