Re: Advice for buying 1st Foil Kite

HQ had a good start to the Matrixx series, but then they dummed down the kite in the next version. They did that with the Montana series too - Good kites in mid versions, then beginner kites with the same name later. HQ has done an excellent job with the latest version of the Matrixx (Matrixx III)....

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

I kited Hoosier Pass this weekend - Hoosier was much more windblown and Icy and scarce than I'd hoped w/ freezing fog. Dropped down to Dillon Res afterwards and was able to salvage a nice lightwind session down there. Dillon had about a half inch of snow on top of ice/frozen corn. FWIW, Anton thinks...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Anthony - sounds like fun! I've got two weeks off work 20 - 30 March and am looking to make a 3-day trip out west to check out some of the spots out there like Lizard Head and Grand Mesa. Let's keep in touch.

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

You're killing me Matt. If I didn't have family obligations, I'd really consider driving out. I've got a break coming the last two weeks of March and will be looking for an excuse the check out some of more Western CO spots - maybe we can find a date to meet up. I would love to check out Lizzard Hea...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Man, it looks like you guys have been having some great conditions out west. PDCK - those pictures deserve to be hung on a wall - awesome!

I've been having some great days out and about the Fairplay area the last couple of weeks as well. Turning out to be a great winter!

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Got to meet up with Scott at Snow Mesa on Tuesday. Great to finally meet some of the folks from out west. Winds were really light but Scott and I made the best of it; beautiful day to be out. Still need to watch out for rocks on the plateau and towards the Cinco, strong winds have windblown parts an...

Re: Inexpensive Snowkite Suggestions

The last 2 generations of HQ kites have been excellent. The new Matrixx 3 is amazing. The best thing you can do is try one and decide for yourself. Don, If you get a chance demo both the Frenzy and the Montana. They are definitely different kites. I had the opportunity to demo them side-by-side. Bas...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Snow conditions at Rabbit Ears Pass are very good. Knee-thigh deep fairly dense base.

I officially hate the drive back though: Dillon/Silverthorne is a complete zoo esp if you have any snow falling.

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Guys, thanks for the info on Grand Mesa - that was kind of the vibe I was getting from Google Earth, that it might be a little tight until you can make your way out further west. Forecast looks a little wonky for Snow Mesa on Saturday - pretty significant gust factor at the moment - but maybe it wil...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Thanks Anthony for the info on Grand Mesa. One other question - it seems like there are a fair amount of trees up there, but I am having a hard time gauging how big the open areas are. Are the winds pretty smooth, or do they get a little squirrely from the treeline?
