Re: Self launching/kitestaking

Im not sure I understand your aversion to this approach. that approach is fine on a beautiful sandy beach my beach is 80% broken shells and always wet. Kite dosent easily slide/rotate over the wet boggy sand and as it drags the shells are like razors. Only takes a small scratch to turn into a poppe...

Re: Self launching/kitestaking

came across this video, slightly different approach to launching a 5 liner.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8m2zYe30Ww

if you took the kite over water and hooked in then slowly let the 5th out then surely this would be the same as a reset and water relaunch after pulling your safety?

thoughts?

Self launching/kitestaking

Recently made a kite stake from a sand anchor type thing (works pretty much the same as those metal ones you can buy but was a lot cheaper). Trouble is my kite wont sit stable at the edge of the window when i set it. as soon as it is let go she starts bouncing around and backflying and then tumbles....

Tangled lines when launching/relaunching

So i have had a few instances when drift launching kites: the method i have used is to lay out all the lines and rig up as usual, then wind it all up on the bar to walk out to the water. Once in deep enough i unwind and let the kite out and pull it into launch position (standard stuff really) someti...

Re: UV Protection for Kites

All plastics degrade with UV exposure. Kite material thats had a lot of UV will tear easily compared to new stuff. You wont necessarily notice any performance difference but UV degraded ripstop will turn a small nick into a huge tear in a gust. My old switchblade material tears like tissue paper onc...

Re: UV Protection for Kites

Ive seen the nikwax stuff for sale here, but its expensive. It might be worth doing however i want to see if others around have treated kites without issue. I dont want it to damage the fabric (although i doubt that would happen) happy to pay a bit to uv proof as it should extend the life of kite a ...

Re: UV Protection for Kites

Ive looked at the Ultramar stuff and i dont think its easily available here. The only product ive heard of that people use that seems to be available here is Nikwax, however its a pain to find in any decent quantities
