Re: Any self taught out there?!

Self taught as well. I'd never seen it done, no video, nothing. But I did things like launch straight downwind, try with off shore wind, try with 8 knots of wind etc. It did not take me 3 sessions, probably more like 30.. In short, there are some basics that you will understand after one or two less...

Re: Best Kite for Downwinders- Recomendations.

Sure you can also use any kite for upwinders, jumping, freestyle etc. But some might be better for one thing than others. Or not. I kited with a guy that did a downwinder from the north of Mozambique to the border with Somalia (more than 1000 km). He wasn't sponsored by a kite manufacturer and he wa...

Very impressive. KOTA riders go higher but could still do so much more..

Re: Ripstop on new kites

I think I read somewhere, probably on this forum that the newer stuff, at least quad tex is stronger and stretches less. But if it tears it really tears and probably in a pattern difficult to repair - you'll need a new panel. This while the old 1x1 ripstop is likley to tear in one or two directions ...

Re: LE bladder wear by elastic bladder retainer inside tip (Ozone)

Do you think you could "protect" the thinning part of the bladder that's exposed to the retainer by sticking an extra layer onto it ? You know the transparent stuff with the sticky side you can buy per metre. Or even glue a piece of old bladder onto it ?

My strong side is my preferred side only for jumping. For all tricks my favourite side, in fact just about my only side, is my weak side...

Re: toeside on your weak side

I ride toeside well on my strong side (TT and SB). I can ride toeside on my weak side but badly so. I've thought about improving it because It would come in handy on longer downwinders where you often need to kind of make S-shapes going alternatively heel and toeside.

Re: Which kite manufacturer's kites have the highest quality/are most durable

A kite's lifespan here is mostly determined by when the valves start delaminating. To fly a kite into the ground or into a tree here you'd have to aim for them so re inforcements aren't very important. I guess canopee quality is but I haven't noticed much difference between makes. Considering the br...
