Waist harness should be around your waist (convenient name) I like to have it as tight as humanly possible to try and stop it riding up. IDK if this is the generally accepted "correct" method or not. I'm pretty sure this is what most people do, but at some point I started keeping it slightly looser...

How funny us this thread encouging drug and alcohol use before kiting. I'm not saying Americans have a drug problem but...😉 Half the kiters at most beaches are dangerous going in a straight line. So I don't see this " loss of youth in kitesurfing market" as a mistake or a problem. It's the industry knowing what's going on in the world around them and acting appropriately to the situation in order to make money and have a sustainable business. You're probably right, just a bit of a shame... ...
