Re: Jumping (and landing) technique

Couple of good videos that might be helpful: https://youtu.be/OGBml0w2p3I https://youtu.be/5gfFAtcRGaQ I've found that you want to be on a fast reach, lean way back and almost "sit down" as you load up your line tension, then when you send the kite just sort of kick the nose up and let 'er rip. I ha...

Re: Gear that has exceeded your expectations!

Recently, I've been extremely impressed by my first impression of the Lecca-Lecca Minima 11m foil kite. I had a nice ride on it and it was a blast, cheap, and boosted really well. I also love my Delta Hydrofoil, stable, fast, and relatively cost effective compared to other top-tier open class carbon...

What excites me most about this kite is the price point.
This. A quiver of Minima's would cost 57% of the cost of a similarly sized quiver of Souls. The 8.5 and 11 are both cheaper than comparably sized inflatables that won't boost anywhere near as well as the Minima.

Re: How do I get traction on the surface of my Alaia?

Never had a problem with surf wax in tropical places if using the right temperature. Sticky Bumps Base or Tropical, which is a little softer, worked great in Hawaii/Costa Rica/Virginia Beach

Re: How do I get traction on the surface of my Alaia?

Wax will only help it seal against seawater better. Not sure your reasons for avoiding this, but I have 2 homemade alaias that are both waxed and work AWESOME.

Re: short lines

Video of Daniela Moroz waterstarting in light wind with a foil kite on short lines. Notice at :27 she reaches way up to pull her steering line while leaving the bar sheeted out. Thought this was a pretty good demonstration of a very technical waterstart.

Re: Kite size recommendations for first foil kite?

I wonder if a Soul or Hyperlink would just end up being more fun at a relatively small performance penalty. That's spot-on. Here's the thing though...that performance penalty is meaningless compared to the performance penalty you incur when you can't ride around the course without falling. So havin...

Re: hydrofoil kite quiver ...

So I read from your question: What is the use of a larger LEI if I have a larger foil kite as well? I can imagine some uses, like riding it properly powered with a displacement board when the fear of dropping it isn't really there. Using it to boost at the very top of its wind range. Backup kite you...

Re: short lines

I figure I can sacrifice some light wind, low end Once you figure out how to move the kite for power on shorter lines (more aggressive turning, more bold positioning in the wind window) I think you'll be surprised at how minimal the compromise here actually is. I was nervous to try shorter than 20m...
