Re: short lines

Video of Daniela Moroz waterstarting in light wind with a foil kite on short lines. Notice at :27 she reaches way up to pull her steering line while leaving the bar sheeted out. Thought this was a pretty good demonstration of a very technical waterstart.

Re: Kite size recommendations for first foil kite?

I wonder if a Soul or Hyperlink would just end up being more fun at a relatively small performance penalty. That's spot-on. Here's the thing though...that performance penalty is meaningless compared to the performance penalty you incur when you can't ride around the course without falling. So havin...

Re: hydrofoil kite quiver ...

So I read from your question: What is the use of a larger LEI if I have a larger foil kite as well? I can imagine some uses, like riding it properly powered with a displacement board when the fear of dropping it isn't really there. Using it to boost at the very top of its wind range. Backup kite you...

Re: short lines

I figure I can sacrifice some light wind, low end Once you figure out how to move the kite for power on shorter lines (more aggressive turning, more bold positioning in the wind window) I think you'll be surprised at how minimal the compromise here actually is. I was nervous to try shorter than 20m...

Re: Hello all help with rigging wipika air blast

Also keep in mind that this equipment came from an era where people kited together in groups and had more of a communal safety vibe than the modern, solo-kiter has now. This is a testament to the evolution of the gear, the fact that I can launch/land by myself is because of how well this modern equi...

The B or G string from an electric guitar should do you just fine for thin line.

Re: Kite size recommendations for first foil kite?

So it all depends on WHY you want a foil kite, and what you want to do :D Well, I would eventually like to get, if not into racing, at least competent to try racing. I came to kiting from a sailboat racing background and so this is interesting to me. This would be one step on a journey in that dire...

Re: Flysurfer Sonic Race VMG

How does this compare to the Sonic2? I heard it explained this way from a FS team rider; if you want to boost and really work the kite through its paces, the Sonic2 is the kite. If your goal is course racing, the Sonic Race is the kite. He wasn't so much worried about the materials blowing out on t...

Re: Kite size recommendations for first foil kite?

I recently tried the Lecca-Lecca Minima in 11m and rode it back to back with my 15m Elf Joker 7 race kite. One of the most noticeable differences is that the race kite felt way less powerful during most riding conditions, except for fast upwind and fast downwind. The smaller, lower-aspect Minima eve...

Re: Hello all help with rigging wipika air blast

My instinct is that this is a joke thread...I really hope it is. If it's not and you truly intend to use 16 year old equipment and forsake all the technological/safety advances that have occurred in the last decade and a half of kitesport development, then all I can say is good luck, you're not gett...
