Re: How to turn a hydrofoil - and what is YAW ?

when we try to apply a yaw moment I agree with everything you wrote but want to be clear about this point; how would a rider standing on a board apply a yaw moment without a dynamic control surface in the water OR something against which to push? Can the rider induce yaw simply by resisting the fro...

Re: What about kiting in the olympics?

Apparently there was a meeting a couple of months ago at which it was suggested it's a done deal. Can you share more details about this meeting? I'm not saying you're wrong, but think about what you're saying for a second...Neil Pryde is betting that Nico Parlier is going to ride CR:X gear at the O...

Re: What about kiting in the olympics?

Here.. https://youtu.be/fJRLtwvHA_0 I think they got all of 12 entries, probably a bunch of 'bro's' rounded up to make a 'display' hardly the several hundreds across four weight groups we had in the hey day of the windsurfer class in the late seventies - early eighties which gave the grass roots pu...

Re: What about kiting in the olympics?

Anyone remember when Neil Pryde said they'd release the FR:X as a big-brother to the CR:X? Curious to see how that pans out as the latest rumor I heard was that the one design foil they had selected for that class was based on the latest and greatest Delta Hydrofoil design. If that's the case, that ...

Re: How to turn a hydrofoil - and what is YAW ?

Mossy i think the dihedral or anhedral on the tail of kite foils mainly to give some lateral projected area and avoid needing a vertical tail, since there is little net lift from the tail I wouldn't say it affects the handling in the way you propose. Since the stabilizer is creating an opposite mom...

Re: How to turn a hydrofoil - and what is YAW ?

With dihedral in the wing And what would you say as almost all of our KBHF F wings have anhedral or are flat? Same thoughts? R H "Anhedral" wings, aka those with a negative dihedral angle like a AV-8B Harrier, destabilize the foil about the roll axis making it easier to initiate the turn compared t...

Re: What about kiting in the olympics?

edt, I think you underestimate the power the riders have in this. If it were just a matter of IKA and IOC cramming something down our throats, we'd already have an Olympic medal. The fact that they keep developing the class before establishing anything official proves they're at least attempting to ...

Re: What sort of paint we put to polish up our foil surface?

Any kind of filler primer will work, the generic stuff in a spray can is easy to work with because it's soft. If you want to use a maritime finish you'll get a more durable product but it's more difficult to work with because it cures harder, so it doesn't sand as evenly or easily. I've transitioned...

Re: How to turn a hydrofoil - and what is YAW ?

I still say you are wrong Mossy, and can in fact show that planes can turn fully around with wings perfectly level because of horisontal COE coming from the fuselage can be well in front of the rudder so the resulting sideways force acts just like banking and pulling the elevator, but no reason to ...
