Re: flying a foil kite- tips needed

"4:1 race style depower" Please this is genuine question - what is 4:1 race style depower good for. Why is better than 2:1? I just dont know. Many thanks t. The ozone race bars are 4:1, the Contact freeride bars are 2:1. 4:1 systems have 2 pulleys, versus just doubling the line back a single time l...

Re: flying a foil kite- tips needed

Stop fucking with your mixer, the kite is fine you just need to tune your bar, and better yet, get a bigger bar because 50cm is too short for that kite. I have a 50cm bar on my 11m Sonic2 and it's too short for that kite as well. If you don't have a 4:1 race style depower, fix that as well. Get a ne...

Re: Hydrofoil comparison table

As far as I am aware high stiffness only starts to play a key role for top end racing foils where the loading is severe. I don't believe this at all, I think stiffness is the number 1 factor affecting stability outside of the actual shape/design of the foil. That said, stiffness increases as the ma...

Re: Hydrofoil comparison table

What question would you be trying to answer by reviewing such a table? If that table is more than 6 months old, it's useless, all the gear is changing on a 3-9 month timeline at this point and almost every manufacturer in the space is making something better than they did this time last year. Mike's...

Re: Is my instructor bias regarding buying gear?

In the conditions you're describing, I rig a 15m race foil kite to ride with my hydrofoil. I think a 9m is a waste of time under 22 knots, and again, that's on a hydrofoil. For a twin tip, it's basically useless until you're in the high 20's

Re: Do you disassemble your foilboard after each use?

My last foil just barely fit in my car fully assembled and mounted to the board. I had a set of Flyboy foil covers that I'd throw on, wedge it into the back of my car, then forget about it until my next session. Before regattas I usually disassemble, clean, fill/paint/repair, then sand and reassembl...

to shim the fuselage do you simply put something in the fuselage cavity, towards the front (?!), before dropping it onto the mast?
Yup!

Re: How to tune leading edge collapse

Too much camber in the kite can cause the airflow over the top skin to be disrupted and cause a front collapse at speed. Reduce the camber in the kite by tightening C or B, or by lengthening Z a bit. Before you do anything to the bridle, though, make sure your lines and bar are in proper trim. Somet...
