Re: My first Alaia

Thanks downunder , watched the video and a few others, but didn’t need the vacuum seal or blow torch tips from the video. Thanks BWD , for your tips about not heating the epoxy and actually cooling the board after application, this technique worked. I sanded the first coat, cleaned and used an extra...

Re: My first Alaia

Dried the board out for several months, de-waxed, cleaned with xylene I had, brushed epoxy on the bottom. When it cured I noticed moisture/air tried to escape and created a few bubbles (red circles in picture below) and burst a few bigger bubbles (blue circle). Then I coated the topside with epoxy a...

Alaia Repairs

Cool project :thumb: My Naish Alaia glass is worn to the mat in places (dark blue arrow examples) and corners are chipped out (light blue arrows). I made a foam pipe wrap (wrapped in tape) protector to prevent future transport corners/edges/tip damage (bottom picture). AlaiaRepairs.jpg Looking for t...

Re: LE Stiffeners

Appreciate the feedback. The 19m Speed3 DLX is Black and the indentations may be more visible on dark color fabric. I’ve flown a white 21m Speed3 and some cells flatten/indent a little (compared to being inflated on the ground with a fan) but not like the more worn 19m. Looking at the 19m LE the fab...

Re: LE Stiffeners

Thanks for the tip and link gwicke. I can see the paraglide community/forum has all kinds of information and have been perfecting LE reinforcements for over a decade. I found some good information on that forum. Leading edge reinforcement is one of the many ways to keep the right profile shape. As y...

LE Stiffeners

Found a DIY from 10years ago in my searches, an idea that has now been adapted in many closed foil kites. <<LINK1>> I have a used 19m Speed3 that flys with the Leading Edge pushed in on almost all of the cells. It inflates quickly and flies well. I made new mixer lines with 7/64” Amsteel, the correc...

Re: Kite Wake Skating

Went in to only buy a wetsuit but… also walked out with a LF Focus44 WakeSkate at a waterski shop. I ride surfboards strapless and have ridden skimboards. The waterski owner also kites and suggested I could try adding side fins to improve grip/upwind tacks for the summer light winds. The board comes...
