Re: US National Park Service seeking public comments on whether or not to allow kitesurfing

Do you have any data about the effects of kitesurfing on birds/ wildlife? This is what is needed. Opinions are not enough. Specific studies on the effects of kitesurfing on birds, no. But there have been studies by the US Agricultural Industry and Federal Aviation Administration on the use of kites...

Re: US National Park Service seeking public comments on whether or not to allow kitesurfing

Just wanted to update the international kitesurfing community here because of all the fantastic support you have provided. In 2017 we celebrated the retirement of Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent George Price by kitesurfing the beautiful stretch of Atlantic coastline we were able to access ...

Re: US National Park Service seeking public comments on whether or not to allow kitesurfing

We did it!! Thanks to Toby and all my international kitesurfing friends! I truly believe it must have been the number of comments the NPS received, along with my statement about the case to the Cape Cod National Seashore Advisory Commission, that must have made a difference. We've set an important p...

Re: Please sign petition to allow kitesurfing at National Seashores and reverse ban in Massachusetts

An attempt by the US Attorney to get the lawsuit dismissed has failed as a federal judge agreed to put it on hold for a couple months pending the outcome of the public comment period which I posted about here: http://kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2394401 . Thankfully the judge is allowing us thi...

Re: US National Park Service seeking public comments on whether or not to allow kitesurfing

Actually JH mentions several times that the majority of kiters (on the Outer Cape anyway) are conservationists who agree with the need to protect species and are looking for access in areas away from important shorebird habitat. To say that kitesurfing doesn't disturb shorebirds is disingenuous. Eve...

Re: US National Park Service seeking public comments on whether or not to allow kitesurfing

Only 2 days left, so please don't delay! Submit your comments today! Here's an example of a great one, although yours doesn't have to be as long or detailed: Dear Superintendent Price, I strongly urge and request the National Seashore to reconsider the park-wide 7 month ban on kitesurfing and allow ...

Re: US National Park Service seeking public comments on whether or not to allow kitesurfing

Only 5 days left for us to flood the United States National Park Service's mailbox with letters supporting kitesurfing at National Seashores and disputing the Park Service's lack of evidence that kitesurfing harms shorebirds. Please don't delay or put it off 'til this weekend (especially with wind i...

Re: US National Park Service seeking public comments on whether or not to allow kitesurfing

Any tips and pointers on how to structure the comment letter to the nps i think would be helpful . Thank you, that is a valid point. NPS has banned kitesurfing for 7 months out of the year (March-Oct) across 99% of the park, which spans 6 towns and over 35 miles of the entire Cape Cod Atlantic coas...

Re: US National Park Service seeking public comments on whether or not to allow kitesurfing

I did my best to indicate that this is not a Cape Cod issue, but rather a United States National Park Service issue, and the repercussions will be national not simply local. The stakes could not be higher. I hope the lack of responses here does not mean kiters have not been submitting comments to th...

US National Park Service seeking public comments on whether or not to allow kitesurfing

Dear fellow kiteboarding enthusiasts, I first wrote back in May about the kitesurfing ban on Cape Cod, Massachusetts here: http://kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2392658 As a direct result of our lawsuit, the National Park Service (NPS) is requesting comments from the public over the next couple o...
