Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

I wouldn't consider 10 knots lightwind at all, if you have a really big kite. A 20m PL Aero or 21m sonic race will have you doing big floaty jumps on a 130tt in much less wind if you know how to fly it. The upper end on my 20m aero ultralight is like 14 knots lol. Agree - and this was the OP's ques...

Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

No offense, but you will find out with more experience, that volume matters  Volume makes a big difference in terms of "how low can you go", when you explore the utmost low end on a hydrofoil, standing fully "parked with zero speed" occasionally, with a given kite, trust me :thumb: I stick to ...

Re: Surfboard Size Poll

adamj2281, I assume the idea of this poll was to see which sizes and boards different riders use, right ? When not seeing the outline of the boards, it is almost useless. Some of them are from manufacturers - but then we all have to look them up to know which type of board they are :-? Agree, I am l...

Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

The reason why volume plays a huge role, at least on a hydrofoil in marginal winds, is the fact that we DONT move forward to start with, we stand on the board and go nowhere at first, board is sinking - and even if we moved ever so slightly, it would not be planing on the surface as this requires a ...

Re: Surfboard Size Poll

77 kg / 170 lbs. Locally, ride big waves, as well as sloppy small waves, from 4-5 m2 kites up to big kites 8-9 m2, but never bigger. Board widths 47 cm / 18.5 inch all of them. For really big waves and/or speed, and general use, this 6'0 with a flatter tailrockerline so fast (speed) and control 60_2...

Re: Surfboard Size Poll

Hmmm, lengths are pointless IMO, when you don't see the board outline :-?

Would recommend to show a picture of your boards here, apart from your weight and board lengths/widths :thumb:

Re: Tacking! More Power Scotty!!

Just an update to say that I have found rear foot placement following the tack is a contributing factor. I have not been placing my new rear foot back far enough for effective input/control. I think this is very true, both for jibes and tacks. More power though, makes everything a lot easier, as yo...

Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

I disagree.... Volume has a major impact, in terms of "how low can you go", in terms of say hydrofoiling. Surface area is not the major part, when winds are around 4-6 knots IMO, as volume has quite a substantial role whether you will succeed to ride fully planing, or not :-? In terms of skimboards ...

Re: lift vs glide

How is lift and glide related in a kite hydrofoil? What design characteristics would you look for in a foil that has lots of lift AND glide? thanks Depends on what glide is to you ? If you mean how far distance it glides without power/kitepull before touchdown, then it is simply glideratio. If you ...

Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

Hello all! I was wondering if it's more efficient a light wind specific surfboard or a foil board approaching a light wind day with a big kite and perhaps 10 knots (or maybe are almost the same...? ) Agree with Matteo V - whatever we personally like to ride if light wind, is the best, no matter WHA...
