Re: Foil tangled in lines

I have kept the kite flying, or flown it on the water - and got the foil free of the lines. Releasing might cause the kite to loop and you might get pulled into the sharp wings - if the bar gets stuck on the foil, which is very likely to happen unfortunately. If you can release fully from both the l...

Re: Do foil kites stay in the air better?

The light LEI actually handles extremely well in marginal winds. The superlight strutless one are exceptional. Where a normal race foil kite can not match, because it drops easier and folds if wind is gusty, so a lot more tricky. In steady winds, the UL foil kites are awesome, but the UL strutless L...

Re: Jumping (and landing) technique

Not that much experience as usually strapless - but when I ride with straps and want to jump, particular in the lower winds like 9-12 knots maybe, the faster (smaller) the wing the better, as your riding speed is essential to big air here. So using a speed/race wing just a tad over 500 cm2 - massive...

Re: ? SS H4 wing-mounted mast-connection position... advice

Yes, it still stands that the balance point should be on top of the centre of lift, which is close to, but a bit in front of, the middle of the wing. It does not matter if the mast is mounted further forward or rearward relative to the wing, in this respect. But it changes the behaviour in turns hug...

Re: Tips for learning to ride toeside

I think the touchdown carve to toe is a good step I think I might have said this before, but I only did a couple of those and they were unsuccessful. I quickly discovered that if you just keep carving upwind until you're almost at a stop and about to stall, you can redirect the kite to the other si...

Re: Slingshot Ghost Whisper 91 2019 imput needed

+15 knots and a 15 m2 Chrono with a 1200 cm2 wing - this seems utterly wrong in every way, I think you should start here instead  Unless you weigh 700 pounds, then it sounds right :thumb: Racers can ride with such a kite in that much wing yes, but on tiny very flat/fast wings. You got the inpu...

Re: Tips for learning to ride toeside

Whereas on a hydrofoil he will for starters not be able to point very high toeside, so if too much kite it is impossible IMO, and overall, a smaller well chosen size is so much better. Point very high, you mean upwind? Why is this important? My intuition is that one can develop toeside riding skill...

Re: Straps or strapless poll

1 loose front foot strap helps my starts. I should try without. I would also be interested if foil aspect matches strap usage. Low-Aspect/Surfy = no straps high-aspect/Speed/Racing = straps 22/Straps 13/without True, one can say that almost everyone riding high-aspect/Speed/Racing = straps. But for...

Re: Tips for learning to ride toeside

If you can do the turn, then you are on the stage which is quite similar to progressing from riding heel side board-on-the-water to flying. Just try riding toe side with board on the water for some time and flying would click in the same way as it did with heel side. This is where I disagree with o...

Re: Tips for learning to ride toeside

The smaller the kite (less powered), the easier, as long as it isnt so small you can barely foil, then it become tricky again. Some prefer to use a harness with a sliding hook to be able to twist more upwind (I dont like it, got one but dont like the sloppy feel eventhough it in theory might help wi...
