Re: Wind range and gusts - beginner question

Another beginner question: If I have a kite rated say 15-24 knots for my size and weight and conditions on the day are mostly 15 most of the time but with gusts up to 29 at times - should I 1.go to smaller kite and possibly struggle at 15? 2.Depower and wait out the gusts with current kite as 15 is...

Re: Medium to Big jumps with surfboard

I have a custom SB that is small (4'10" x 18") & pretty flat rockered. It is now 10 years old, has been jumped, surfed, ridden in light conditions & gale force winds & traveled around the world. Not a dent or crack in it. I imagine the smaller size helps make it stronger. Thanks Lee Brittain! It mak...

Re: surfboard vs directional kite board

Sector 60 is a mighty big board ... but my suggestion: when you are learning, keep the kite high as you carve the turn - this helps support your body weight & makes it less likely to unsettle the trim of the board as you turn. Keep your feet in switch position on the new tack until you feel well bal...

Re: The next big advancement in bars

I have a Wipika bar (came with an "Amp" kite ca. 2003/4) that has a clamp with a hole that routes the CK loop line through it. The idea was that you could slightly rotate the bar in order to lock the length into position. This was considered possibly desirable (a hang-over from 2 line kites).

Re: Best bankrupt?

sounds like a joke, what a mega stupid decision, a kite without bag ! Well ... everybody's got an opinion. The sensible thing is to provide kites with a simple, lightweight sock with all kites and then provide a large, well designed backpack as an additional option. It is the most practical thing f...

Re: Which kitesizes do YOU use ?

I remember that in the "old days" I had 16m, 11.5m & 8.5m Airblasts & my 16m Airblast was my most used kite. But at that time I was still often windsurfing in stronger winds. In 2006 I got a quiver of Waroos: 16m, 12m, 9m. The 12m was by far my most used kite. After a couple of years added a 7m Waro...

Re: old fart round the world tour

Some general thoughts: 1) I can't imagine traveling the world & only being focused on kiting. I'd choose places that were interesting as well as being good for kiting - there are plenty of them. 2) You ought to improve quickly enough that kiting in waves will become a major attraction. As an older g...

Re: What is end of season / used gear worth?

I think that some of those 50% off blow out prices is at cost or below cost just to quit dead stock that will be worth even less in a few months time when next years "turns like a 4m with the power of a 20m sooooo much better than last years" kite is released. New graphics. That's 90% of it IMO. Th...

Re: Is Wakestyle dead?

Looks like North doesn't think so, Oh yeah, they don't exist anymore! Well wakestyle in general may still be (reasonably) cool to watch, especially in a carefully produced & edited video clip, but sliders & kickers? Laboriously constructing contrived obstacles & sticking them where they don't belon...

Re: Is Wakestyle dead?

Well ... it's nice to see everybody back! Im pretty sure winning at the foil gold Cup is pretty difficult too, but by and large it’s not that hard to simply get around a race course. There are incredibly talented kiters doing very different and difficult things at the top of their respective fields....
