Re: Help a new kiteboarder!

wow. Point taken all. Does everyone agree it takes $1000 of lessons to become a capable kiteboarder? Maybe someone has a more reasonable approach? Now, I don't want everyone to yell at me for this but I am just saying... I learned to ski and snowboard with out a paying a "professional". I learned t...

If what you say is true, you got smoked by your local shop. It seems to be about the $$$$. $3k seems a lot to drop without even knowing if kiting is for you. Not to rub things in, but if I were you, the only thing I would have come out of that shop with would have been lessons with water support, an...

A little help for you, GB . Take if for what it's worth.

Most common tool for hunting ducks is the 12 gauge with steel shot #2s. Effective range is about 40 yards. Any further than that and your pellets really lose their energy. So unless you're a kiteline distance away, they can't really "kill" you with their shotguns. If you're sharing the lake with oth...

Kite pulling one way or the other.

Nice replies guys, especially about switching hands! :thumb: Couple things to try... 1. Check for leading edge twist. Pump up the kite and lay on flat surface. Does one of the tips come up off the ground? I think the only thing you can do here is to reseat or adjust the bladder and see if tha...

Tip launch

Thanks Traig,

To us uninitiated, can you describe this launch method your crew uses? Can you get almost a 90 degree angle like LEIs?

When you let go the top tip first, do you wait for the kite to fill more before releasing the bottom one?

Good to see the ARCers chiming in.

I have a few questions for you guys and would appreciate your honest opinions, especially from those that know LEIs too. I started on an 840, moved on the Fs and Gs. Great kite to learn with, but a bit sketch launch wise for a beginner. Once on the water, it's stability was a big plus for learning. ...

From Windsurfing stud back to kite kook?

Just cuz you can do one, don't always mean it will be easy to pick up the other. I windsurf and also have friends that are phenomenal windsurfers. But some of them for some reason just have a hard time picking up kiting. They've broken body parts, slice fingers, been thrashed and even given up. If y...

Oahu Instruction - who's reputable?

I have a brother who is stationed in Oahu and would like to get into kiting.

When asked, I recommended instruction first opposed to buying gear.

I also told him I would do a little research and refer him to some good instructors.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

Eric

Land on your ass.

Seriously, if it looks like it's gonna get bad, put your feet up and use that airbag! :thumb:
