Riding Upwind

Wrote a blog post on improving upwind abilities and interested in feedback or discussion, cheers! Greg I was contacted by a local beginner recently who had taken introductory lessons elsewhere but is looking for some spot specific tips. He has managed to start gaining ground upwind but is still stru...

Anyone have dimensions for a Vader 4'10"?

I'm going to build a cedar surfboard with build style similar to: http://www.losethestraps.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=911 Looking to try out a Vader in 4'10" or maybe a 5'2". Not sure if I am going to bother with channels but need to know nose and tail rocker, concave, fin placement, etc to avoid scr...

Re: Surpassing Plateaus: Your First Lessons and Riding Upwind

If you have taught your wife and are still married you are definitely an expert! Good point in leaning back into the harness and edge control. I often have students hook in to the bar and tether off the centre lines so they can get used to the proper riding position and moving the control bar while ...

Surpassing Plateaus: Your First Lessons and Riding Upwind

Had a first crack at blogging and wrote two long winded posts on learning to kitesurf and going upwind. The posts detail reasons why kitesurfers often plateau and provides insight into what both riders and instructors can do to mitigate this. If you have time to read I would love to get feedback fro...

Re: Ride Engine harness bar question

I am a RE dealer so have got to try a lot of different combinations. My favourite at 32" waist + wetsuit is the medium with 10" SS slider. I had a customer order a 12" carbon spreader last year but ended up replacing it with a 12" SS spreader after his first session. The issue with the carbon spread...

Re: Hydrofoil Videos

I wish they included a clip of him getting up on that small board, must be quite a feat of paddle power and balance!

Re: How critical is line length?

19m is on the shorter side but not overly so. You will have a slightly more responsive kite and a bit less time during your power stroke. I would pick up a set of 4 or 5m extensions to improve your low end on the 12m, however the 12 will fly fine without them. Maybe someone else here as a different ...

Re: Laminating cedar to hold rocker

Makes sense, I'll stick with two layers then as I am not using a vac bag.

Re: Laminating cedar to hold rocker

Thanks for the info BWD, I will stick with two layers of cedar for my next build to keep the rocker table design easy after reading that that downunder has tried a single layer and it didn't work out. Trying to save a bit of time and stress during the glue up, but I would rather have a bit of a thic...

Laminating cedar to hold rocker

Hey guys, My last build was a foil board using two layers of cedar strips laminated on a make-shift rocker table. The rocker held really well with very little springback. I suspect the glue between the strips would be enough to hold the rocker in a single layer lamination, but anyone tried and can c...
