Re: Do I bother to get a 60cm mast?

Definitely get one. I still use one most of the time due to shallow water and love it. I've learn't great pitch control due to the 60cm mast requiring it. The other day I managed my first foiling foot changes on the 60cm. It's also great for strapless riding.

Re: Importance of foil weight/float

I would suggest that the problem is not alum mast itself, but more of sloppy fuselage design. For example, LF alum fuselage weights 1200 grams. When located 1 meter away from the board, its angular momentum is the most contributing factor to the speed with which the foil sinks. It has really dull s...

Re: Importance of foil weight/float

Lighter, just as stiff, hydrofoils are way better IMO and liking. But I am spoiled, having used these a lot - but have also ridden many alu foils, so have quite a lot of experience with these types. In reality it is a luxury thing with lighter gear  For jumping and doing freestyle in the air,...

Re: First foil trip. Perth-Exmouth 3 weeks starting next week

There are some of the most beautiful kiting beaches in the world along the Ningaloo Reef. For foiling, try Sandy Bay and Wobiri Access. Graveyards is a terrific place to ride waves but would be dangerous to foil as the reef can be shallow. You will see many sharks, turtles, rays and maybe the occasi...

Re: Nigel no mates

Yes, it's funny the attitude there is to foiling at my local spot. It was blowing a solid 25 - 30kts a few weeks back. I pumped up my 3.5m Cloud which looked like a toy sitting amongst the 7 and 9m kites that the twin tippers were setting up. There were some doubting looks being directed towards my ...

Re: Kite choices for foiling in high winds ?

At 80kg, I use a Cloud C5 3.5m from 20kts and up. Great little kite and fantastic to go down wind with as well. I look forward to our strong sea breezes so I have an excuse to use it. My next size up is an Ozone Catalyst 6m which I use from 15 - 18kts. I think a Reo 5m will be my next purchase.

Re: First foil - Slingshot hoverglide ?

Another vote for the Hover Glide. I bought mine in Feb this year and it has been, and still is, fantastic. With the short mast I was up and riding over 100m in my first hour. I still use the 60cm mast for shallow water riding and have kept the 40cm mast to teach 3 of my friends. They all got up on t...

Re: Power.

I'm still new to foiling and love the feeling of riding as small a kite as possible. I had a go of a friends 14m Apollo in 10 to 12kts recently and it scared the shizzle out of me. Barely enough wind to keep the kite flying but when up and going on the foil, the apparent wind generated by the effici...

Really nice riding. I enjoyed watching that. I've never seen that move before so it could be new. I liked the hand plant flip you do on the board as well. Very smooth.
