Re: Crash vests, what do people use?

Not sure but flotation and impact protection may be mutually exclusive. Just back from a kiting trip where a buddy bust a bunch of ribs, apparently due to the rigid panels in his flotation vest. Maybe somebody on this forum knows whether flotation has to be stiff and a compromise for taking impact?

Re: Kite Windange with Core Kites 70kg?

I am same weight at ~165lbs and a an intermediate kiter. 6, 8, 11 and 15m CORE XR4/5s cover me for most conditions except real light wind (I use a sizeable soft kite for <12 knots). Be careful with buying used XR4s, the stitching at the leading edge near spars, in RARE instances can be defective and...

Boosting only one way

I am an intermediate kiter, almost 60 years old, who has been kiting ~3 years and boosting 10 - 15 feet for a year. Problem is that, I can only get decent height going goofy. Every time I try regular, the kite gets behind me and I bomb out or worse. How common is only being able to boost decently on...

Re: Researching kiteboarding locations

Funny how so many pilots kite. Crandon Park in Biscayne Bay, just a few minutes south of Miami is your best bet. Despite all the negativity around over-regulation and a monopoly at the local beach, it is an awesome and convenient place to kite for pilots. Shallow flat water, close to a busy US airpo...

Come on Toby, how about reposting the very worst ever from Supa and Starsky? As a late comer to this forum I'd enjoy the read.

Re: April Kiteboarding Lessons FL Keys or Carib?

Despite my previous reply boosting Long Bay Turks, I too agree with other posters about South Padre. Been there twice and Turks a zillion times and both are good learner warm shallow flat water spots. Padre, has the US vibe, is less costly with tasty fish tacos, reasonable off season motel rates, a ...

Re: April Kiteboarding Lessons FL Keys or Carib?

Hard to beat Long Bay, Turks for flat, shallow warm water. The island is a bit of a glorified sand dune and expensive but a great beginner kite spot that time of year. Provo is a good kite school and one other (?name) I know of on Long Bay, also has a good rep.

Re: According to Google Trends, kiteboarding is declining in popularity

At the risk of being anecdotal, my impression is that episodic, seasonal kiteboarding in the cooler, northern hemispheres (accounting for the Aug-Oct peaks in the google hit graphs) is on the decline but kiting in warmer, longer season, windier spots (including destination tripping) is holding stead...
