there's this 49 yr old guy kitesurfing, he's really a jackass, swears and cusses alot, and gets into everyone's business about safety.

off topic but, could you see "Formula" or "One Design" kitesurfing events?

Then you'd know how the pros rank, then when you see a lower rank Formula or One Design rider kick ass in open class, you figure he has the better kite.
