Re: Mako: which size?

How is the Mako King for jumping? With my 140, it seems like you just can't land flat or dig the nose in on the landing because of all the rocker. Is it like that on the King too, or is it just so big that jumping feels awkward. I'm about 5'8" 165 too.

Re: Mako: which size?

How are they about the same size? Because they're the same length and the spleene is 3 inches wider. I agree, the spleene is huge in comparison. I'm just saying that looking at the sizes, 139x48 and 140x40, they don't seem that different but when you see the boards you realize that the spleene has a...

Re: 2010 Airush Smart Bar Review

Tried out the smart bar for the first time yesterday for a short downwinder in <15 knots of wind with a 15m 2008 Waroo. -Why the hell are the back lines grey and the front lines red? Isn't that opposite of every other bar? -Quick release is really easy to use and I don't think its possible to jam it...

Re: Mako: which size?

It is amazing how much the Mako's rocker takes away from the low end. My Spleene 139x48 gets me staying up wind about 4 knots earlier than my mako 140x40. The boards are pretty close in size, but the mako is about as curved as it can be, and the spleene is about as flat as it can be.

Re: Wakekiting

Raphael, I didn't get to see the videos of you kiting, did you take them down? I kite at Virginia Beach, and I think we met once at the oceanfront around 25th street. You say on your site, "At Virginia Power Kites, we want to work in harmony with the Virginia Beach kiteboarding community to avoid ha...

2010 Airush Smart Bar Review

Haven't seen any good review of the Airush smart bar yet so I figured I'd post one. I just recieved one yesterday, but haven't used it on the water yet. I've used the '07, '08, and '09 best bars and the '08 cabrinha bar for the past few years. I really didn't like the '09 best bar because the safety...

Re: Mako King

Currently i have a Mako 140 wide that I love for 15+ and a 139 x 48 spleene ripmax for <15 konts with '08 Waroo 15m. I weigh about 165 lbs. The spleene works really well for low winds and FLIES upwind compared to the Mako, but it's not very much fun for jumping. Flat water is fine, but the spleene g...

Re: paddle board kiteboarding

I was working out in San Diego for awhile in 2007, and there was a guy there who rode a big old windsurfer with a centerboard in super light winds. Sometimes he would use a trainer kite, and sometimes he would use a beach umbrella... yes, a beach umbrella. He was able to go upwind with the beach umb...

Re: What Not to Do.

Some people just won't listen. Last year I came across 2 guys on the beach hot launching their 2004 c-kites on the beach in gusty offshore winds. Luckily for them it was only 8-15 knots or so. At one point, one of them had the kite leading edge up, dead down wind of him and he turned away from the k...
