Re: kitesurfing with LOOONG lines

Thats an interesting video.

I guess there will be some length limit at which the weight of the lines will stop the kite from being launched or making it uncontrollable, but its interesting to see that 100m is possible, although not entirely desirable for freeride or race purposes.

Cheers.

kitesurfing with loooong lines

I was wondering, has anyone tried using a kitesurfing kite with much longer than 40m lines? What are the reasons that racers don't tend to use anything bigger than this? Does it get to a point that the weight and drag of the lines seriously affect how the kite performs? or is it just simple practica...

Re: Takoon Chrono 2011

I've used a 15m 2010 Chrono all season, and it has been a fantastic kite for light wind tom-foolery! Really powerful, fast turning (for its size), easy relaunch and a pleasure to ride. The bar is sound too, great depower system and the PU coated line is one of those things that once you've had one y...

Re: How high is it possible to jump with a kite ?

High123 : One thing you need to consider is that when the vertical speed of the kite/rider gets sufficiently high it will significantly affect the direction of the apparent wind on the kite. This effect can probably be ignored for simplicity when the vertical velocity is significantly less than the ...

Re: How high is it possible to jump with a kite ?

I've read all your articles JS and found them very interesting, but I do still believe there are some Ideas which I'd like to put forward for discussion. I've now gone ahead and done some numeric integration in a spreadsheet to help visualise my ideas, and to reinforce my belief that the most import...

Re: How high is it possible to jump with a kite ?

We all know that we can jump more than 3m with a 14m kite. As Peet pointed out, Lift is continuing to be generated throughout the jump by the kite. We are not dealing with a static system here. The speed of the wind over the kite canopy is what controls the amount of lift generated. Even in the abs...

Re: How high is it possible to jump with a kite ?

Respectfully, your misinterpretation of the relevant dynamics ought to be evident here... ...Theoretically, once you use a kite big enough (or winds strong enough) for the effect of gravity to be completely nullified by the pull of the kite, you'd keep on going up for ever, until the wind dropped o...

Re: How high is it possible to jump with a kite ?

Ok Guys, I think there's couple of things missing here... If I were to do this calculation, I wouldn't do it in the way Peter has. Lets start with flat water jumping The rider blasts along, pops to get as much vertical take off velocity as he can, whilst simultaneously redirecting his kite to help h...

Re: 10 kite deaths in 1 year

I think pretty much every fatality which I read last year (UK mainly) was due to launching too close to a hard object downwind. I think that if practices such as this could be eradicated, the death toll would halve overnight. I just don't think there is enough awareness about this, whether this be d...

NPX lucifer

After seeing the hype when these first came out, has anyone used one of these for a season and got any opinions of them? Did the plastic zippers hold up well? any problems with it in general? Is it the best choice kitesurfing drysuit for freestyle? Trying to decide between one of these or a pyro pro...
