Re: Sri Lanka Bentota any good?

Time of the year is certainly right - if there is a windy season there, it's now. This said, the further South you go, the less wind you can expect during South West Monsoon. I have no idea if there is any rental equipment in Bentota. Depending on how long you have for kiting, you could bring your s...

Re: Wheres good for summer waves?

@BrianMaiden: Check your facts and read carefully before you start a pissing match. I'm NOT promoting Kalpitiya, ok? If you do your homework, you will find that I said in many instances that Kalpitiya has no waves. I'm talking about KANDATHODUWA. Kandathoduwa is 40 km South of Kalpitiya, and gets SW...

Re: Anyone riding HB kiteboards?

I like the HB Anti for strapless tricks. I don't have one, have tried it from friends. It seems to hold up well.

For surfing (and my taste), the Vader is a better board.

It all depends what you are looking for.

Re: Anyone ride both Firewire Vanguard vs. OR Duke?

a hint to reduce the knee pain when riding the vanguard in choppy conditions: First accelerate fully, even if it means you loose a bit of height. Board really needs to come out of the water. Then move your front feet back a bit, carve into wind to go upwind, and keep the front leg very supple. If yo...

Re: Wheres good for summer waves?

You can check the wind statistics of Kalpitiya; we have the same wind. https://www.windguru.cz/archive-stats.php?id_spot=115722 However, in Kalpitiya, the wind comes overland, which makes it more gusty. And the termical effects of the sand dunes don't help (it slows down the trade wind) Also there i...

Re: Wheres good for summer waves?

@kaioe

It's always between 14knt and 23knt.
I'm using a Tomo Vanguard 5.2, and am 76kg when wet. I'm mostly flying my 8m2 Blade Trigger, and sometimes the 10m2.

Hope this helps :)

Re: Custom Surfboard

Just stop. Basically the questions you're asking mean you have no idea what to ask for. "Upwind ability" has no consideration in board qualities for those of us that ride waves regularly. Who cares if you can pull 25 meters higher on a tack if the on wave handling sucks? Also, you mention volume. D...

Re: Wheres good for summer waves?

Kandathoduwa in Sri Lanka (about 90 km North of the Airport Colombo) has a great beach break, and close to 100% Wind from May until September
