Re: Highlight Moments - GKA KSWT Dakhla 2018

It's a shame there aren't more videos of the heats available.

The Ocean Signal PLB1 is nice because it's the size of a cell phone.

I have yet to see a VHF that wouldn't be overly annoying to carry (including the water proof bag).

Re: Boosting only one way

Keep in mind that your local spot probably heavily favours a certain side for boosting because of the wind/wave angle and that might be why you have so much trouble boosting on your opposite side.

I find this is 10x more true when it comes to strapless airs too.

Re: My first long swim

I dont understand, you put he LE behind you and swim, with it, and you are pulling it? How do you do that with all the lines disconnected? Use an extra leash? If you use a full length leash for your kite leash you just clip that to the pump leash point. If you use a mini-leash for your kite leash t...

Re: My first long swim

As someone who kites in as little as 6 knots where dropping the kite means swimming in I have had several 30+ minute swims and would like to offer you some advice: 1) Wear a vest with some flotation 2) Dress for the swim, this includes gloves and a hood if needed (a beanie wont keep you warm when sw...

Re: Researching kiteboarding locations

Fly to Brownsville, 30 min over to SPI. Corpus would be your 2nd choice if it's too hard to get to Brownsville. Having shallow water makes learning to kite much more enjoyable. In Spring you could consider Pismo Beach if you really wanted to stay in Cali, I'd imagine harder to fly to San Luis Obispo...

Re: How dangerous is this?

I wouldn't take a kid out past chest deep water unless they were wearing a vest. Kid falls, bonks head on board ...

Taking a kid out in 3m waves is just nuts.

Re: Any paragliding pilots around here?

If you want to fly with the minimum risk of death then go the power glider route. Basically a glider that provides its own tow up.

Re: Any paragliding pilots around here?

There are electric options for PPG if noise is a big issue. They will still be noisy when powered up but less so than a gas engine and once up there you can turn off the engine and thermal as opposed to letting the engine idle.
