Re: Mauritius

If you've got a kite around the 17m mark, or hydrofoiling equipment, then you could give it a go. There isn't much wind forecasted for the next week. If you checked Windguru, you may have noticed the wind picking up in 9 days, which at the moment is when the wind is ALWAYS predicted: 9 days from now...

Re: Mauritius

Two main islands, but probably not the two you think. The second island, Rodrigues, is a few hundred kilometres east. The island 250km west is Reunion island. In Mauritius, the main spot (by far) is Le Morne. Unfortunately, it is also very busy on most days. There are however many other, quieter, sp...

Re: What is going on with KOTA

We're not in the window period yet, that's all

The event will be held on the windiest forecasted day between January 30th and February 14th.
So, at least another week to wait.

Also, check their website for updates.

Re: new gear

It is possible, and is often the case in high level racing, that the VMG downwind is greater than the wind speed.

This is not only the case for things on foils (kitefoils, International Moths, AC72 etc), but also under certain conditions for performance skiffs or catamarans.

Re: Beginner getting a first board

If you have a choice on the board size, go for something smaller.

146x43.5 is huge, no matter your size.
You need something a size or two smaller.

Re: Travel Forum Improvements

I think this should actually go into the Wiki section.

A continuous thread does not help that much. However, a nice wiki is a lot more reader-friendly.

Re: Introducing the Hoff - a transparent acrylic board

I agree. The difference between a 'flat' board and a board with a standard concave is small, although it does help a lot for marketing

And btw, you got concave and convex the wrong way around on your picture.

Re: Introducing the Hoff - a transparent acrylic board

It affects upwind performance mostly. Imagine an extreme case where your board is so convex that the bottom is actually half a cylinder. You won't be going far with that one. The extreme of concave is harder to imagine, yet it is easy to see that when you have an exaggerated concave, you will have t...

Re: Introducing the Hoff - a transparent acrylic board

For example, when edging the board forms a natural concave. And I suspect that when landing it forms a natural convex. I think you only ever get a convex bottom, since in both cases your feet are pushing down on the board. When edging because your feet are pushing into the board, you will create a ...
