Re: 20m LEI Kites - Its Time

I gave up big kites when I started foiling in 2005 or 2007. I had a BFK and I had a 20 Aero. Neither was much fun. I think the most fun big kite I ever had was a 16 meter draft closely followed by a 2 strut naish kite. Those ones I loved. So with new moderns builds and if you ride in a flat water s...

Re: 20m LEI Kites - Its Time

When you say 20 m kite, some people think, wow that is too massive, too slow, too much bar pressure and no fun. Twenty years ago, even less, they would have been correct. My dream travel quiver option for Florida and the Caribbean etc island trips is 17-21. ..actually prefer it if the forecast is s...

When you say 20 m kite, some people think, wow that is too massive, too slow, too much bar pressure and no fun. Twenty years ago, even less, they would have been correct. Not so in the last several years however. I have routinely flown 17 to 19 m Cab Contra kites which fly and turn fast with relativ...

Re: Sad loss today

A terrible thing with no easy general answer with each case differing so much. If you are a strong waterman, even better wearing a flotation aid and carrying a knife or hook knife, you might consider releasing your emergency depowered kite and going in to free the kiter. There is substantial risk in...

Re: Florida kite accident?

I hope the heals fully and well. From all accounts it was a very bad impact. Trent, thank you for the information. It is outstanding that they brought him back with CPR. I have spoken to a number of people and am still getting information. Would you have an idea for the time of the accident and was ...

Re: If you see this coming, would we have enough time?

Yes, if you saw it in time, fairly easily. Tornadic waterspouts may be more obvious and they're even more powerful and dangerous. Certainly the dark thunderstorm clouds that spawn them are obvious along with lightning that often goes with. Fair weather waterspouts may sneak up on you, in fair sunny ...

Re: Kiting with a torn muscle?

Listen to your doctor, rest, do your PT and wait it out. If you like, get a second opinion from a well qualified sports doctor or other relevant specialist. Missing some kite time now while you are healing will pay dividends later. You don't want new and more extensive damage or long lasting weaknes...

Re: Dangerous gusts

That is what thunderstorms and other sources of hazardous weather do. Thunderstorms can bring large wind spikes, calms or leave the wind alone. They can also create hazardous wind direction changes and calms for kiters. These conditions can be found with frontal boundaries, Nor’easters, tropical wea...
