Re: another Kitesurf accident Causing the death of a girl :(

Well Airbunny, I do have to agree that this thread is somewhat sexist. Calling an adult woman a "girl" and having a guy say he is the protector of his girl/wife (as if she can't take care of herself without his manly help) is kind of messed up. Women are fully capable of assessing risks and don't ne...

Re: 14mts kite or 12mts with line extensions?

I don't think you'll gain that much low end just by using line extensions, so you'll need a different kite. (In fact, I had the opposite experience with a Naish Park 12m, but that's a whole other story). At your weight you should probably be using a 14m kite regardless of which model.

Re: Ocean Rodeo Go-Joe , or reel leash?

Just get the Go Joe and ignore the critics. Being able to see your board in the chop makes it much easier to get to and you will spend a lot less time searching for it and more time learning. When I was learning I really hated the panic I felt when I crashed, looked around, and could not see my boar...

Re: Beginner needs help for gear

Yeah, you don't really need a "beginner" kite. Just get a "freeride" kite that is made to do just about anything. The only kites to avoid are C-kites and 5-line kites (the Naish Torch, for instance). C-kites tend to have less range and having 5 lines to deal with is just not worth the extra hassle a...

Re: Please help begginner with a kite question

Guys, Cole is 14! He shouldn't go unsupervised at home, let alone on the water learning a dangerous sport. Cole, you need to talk to your parents about this and get their permission. Don't even think about doing this alone! No! This kite is dangerous! What you are planning is very dangerous and aga...

Re: Beginner friendly places in CA

There's no such thing in the winter. The only kiting you can do in winter involves storm fronts and is expert level only due to shifting direction, gusts, rain, and low temperatures. The normal kite season in California is from March through October. (I'm speaking only of kiteboarding on water, if y...

Re: Trainer / Landboard Kite Options (Beginner)

Don't waste your time with a trainer kite. It just isn't the same thing. You'd be much better off taking another lesson and buying a real kite. Then go to your local area and when you ask for a launch, make sure you tell the person launching you that you are a beginner. It's also a good idea to ask ...

Re: Who dont use safety leash?

There have been plenty of times where I had kite problems and had to hit the QR, wrap the lines, and self-rescue back to shore. (Line wrapped around kite tip, bladder valve popped open, etc.) How do you handle that without a leash? I can't imagine trying to self-rescue with the kite still powered. I...

Re: Best time to visit US west coast for kitesurfing

If kiting is the main objective then April-Sep in the San Francisco bay area is where you should be. I don't think many people would target SoCal for a kiting destination. Same period for maui as well more or less. Oct-dec you should pick a different kiting destination. This is exactly what I was t...

Re: Why are people not willing to wear a Life Vest?

I think there is a type of PFD that holds the person's head out of the water so even if unconscious they don't suffocate. Seems like that would be better than those without that feature. You think of all the victims we hear about that died alone without apparent cause. Could have been a medical pro...
