Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

I don't remember being dinged by a wrist leash but it could have happened. Yes, snap shackles, were/are dangerous being an important part of several fatalities. The first and most damning fatality that comes to mind happened to a kiter out in dangerous tropical weather desperately struggling to pull...

Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

Thanks Kenny you too, you have posted a ton of great content on here for a very long time. I recall my first wrist leash was so prone to be yanked free it was almost like not wearing one in the first place. One of the earlier kites had no instructions because the manufacturers had concluded they inc...

Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

I don't recall the VHS cassette video included with the early Wipika kites being as detailed as this Matt Pendle clip but some of the content was included. For those who haven't enjoyed the wonders of the Wipika Classic kites, this may provide some perspectives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1SZb...

Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

matt-0 kite Concept Air and Mosquito, some solid early kites. Michael with Concept used to be real active on the egroups lists trying to move things forward. A number of folks in my area used his kites. I recall visiting Cabarete in 2000 with Mosquito's being the only traction kites in use there. I ...

Re: Harnesses and ribs

I have used seat harnesses for all my sessions, except for one with a waist harness in 1999? I dinged my ribs once in a bad wipeout using a seat harness when things became too loose and I didn't notice. The Fireball setup has also reduced the odds of dinging ribs as well. Some guys have really mangl...

Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

Congratulations CaptainCore on making it through a bad closed head injury accident. Had one of those myself in 2000, no fun at all. I had forgotten about Slingshot's Stealth foil kite thanks for mentioning it and the picture. Alex Caviglia's tragic injury in 2003 and eventual death almost a year lat...

Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

I wrote an article about Silke's tragic death and the impacting changes her loss brought to our sport for Marina Chang of The Kiteboarder in 2016. You can see the article at: http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=131&t=2400592&p=1027502 As Toby said, there is still a great deal more about her acc...

Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

Cabrinha posted an article accenting aspects of Paul Menta's 20 years of kiting and the 16 years he has been sponsored by the brand. "Paul Menta is one of the pioneers of Kiteboarding and this year, he's celebrating his 20th year in the sport. The perfect occasion to sit down with Paul, dig out some...
