Re: Looking for light wind board

The Spleene Barndoor (159) is a serious tractor in low winds. It is definitely not an exciting ride, but you can get that thing on plane when the kite (16M) will barely fly. I have a strong wakeboarding background, but my buddy who was learning at the same time had almost no board experience. The Sp...

Re: Learning Directional, straps or strapless

Ouch, no more TT. That is going to be tough to resist on the few days we get good winds here, but OK, I am committed to the process. Just don't tell me I have to stop drinking too. I will have the board ready early tomorrow morning hoping to eek a session out of the possible 10kt winds ...

Re: Learning Directional, straps or strapless

Thanks. I will quit using the term incorrectly. Us wakeboarders here in the sticks have been saying it wrong for a long time, but there aren't many surfers around to correct us...and when I ride right foot forward (especially on the surfboard) it is much goofier than left, so you can understand my m...

Re: Learning Directional, straps or strapless

Thanks for the advice. I will ride goofy foot (it is right forward for me) as much as possible based on your recommendation. I want to develop a skill set that will let me ride waves when I get the chance, so it is great to hear all this early in learning to ride the board. When being towed on the b...

Re: Lake Kiting and drift launching from boats

Nope. Not missing anything. Once everything is in the water with no tangles, it is just like any other drift launch.

Re: Lake Kiting and drift launching from boats

Just figure 8ing the bar was giving us some trouble in the water. We saw several recommendations online talking about a bucket. My buddy Steve rigged one up and so far it has been our most tangle free method. Some of our trouble just winding on the bar may be due to the fact that we have been using ...

Re: Learning Directional, straps or strapless

Wow, those are alot of great responses. I really appreciate it. I guess my next question (which might be better for another posting) is what is the best technique or time to transition to goofy foot? With my feet providing all the thrust for the board, I have had real difficulty switching feet. My a...

Re: Learning Directional, straps or strapless

Getting up on the board in deep water was the first thing that made me want straps, but I have figured out how to take up a good 45 degree angle from the pull with both feet on the board. If I can do that from a boat pulling me straight ahead, it should be easier with some vertical pull from the kit...

Learning Directional, straps or strapless

So I got an RRD Domingo because riding a Spleene on low wind days just wasn't that exciting and the surfboard videos make it look super fun. I actually have not gotten a good day of wind here in Tennessee (surprise) yet to try it out. To prepare, I have been riding the board getting pulled from my S...

Re: Lake Kiting and drift launching from boats

We haven't had any real problems drift launching with 4 line kites other that when he wind quits on us. I just use the board to plane some resistance in the water and grab the right or left trailing edge line. We usually anchor the boat into the wind and inflate the kite on the engine cover with a D...
