Re: Commercial Strut Thickness

The relevance of the strut thickness would certainly appear important if all other variables were held constant. But, in all fairness to any particular design, you should consider the entire package. cross-section profile chord length chord thickness strut span length wetted surface area. ? addition...

Best wishes Gunnar, Would you explain the new joint for the front wing? Is the fuselage permanently bonded or screwed to the wing? What experiences did you have that lead to using a pin between mast and wing? Is this related to new cradle/saddle configuration at the mast-fuselage connection ? All lo...

Re: Hydrofoil during CFD analysis

my apologies shawn. poor choice of words on my part. my point was simply that the more you are able to validate the inconsistencies in your results the better footing you will have for moving forward . I believe you are most correct to get the 'baseline' right before adding xtra complexities. the mo...

Re: Hydrofoil during CFD analysis

I agree, but by specifically omitting his opinion on the 3 m/s and 8 m/s runs it sounds like he may also think they are possibly BS. w/o knowing why, its tough you just toss (or believe) the ones you don't understand. your data files should provide you enough info to compute lift for each wing at ea...

Re: Hydrofoil during CFD analysis

yes, except for the 1st and 3rd plots (3 & 8 m/s) which have comparatively high peak velocities in the rear fin (high negative lift values and velocities higher than the suction side of the front wing) -bill I'm going to check the AoA on the rear to confirm its at zero as per the front. I'm sure th...

Re: Hydrofoil during CFD analysis

Intuitively my take is accelerated flow from over top of the front wing approximately matches the velocity across the top (high pressure side in this design) of the stab in a useful velocity range, reducing stab lift and drag in that range..... Naturally as an unschooled Neanderthal in the area I m...

Re: Hydrofoil during CFD analysis

...... All plots are labelled correctly, which I really why I posted them. I want to get a better understanding from riders why the rear wing loses lift when the front begins to generate. My initial thought would be the turbulent flow off the front generation that breaks the rear line. My understan...

Re: Hydrofoil during CFD analysis

hi shawn that's pretty cool. thanks do you believe the results? can you tell us why? like others, i'm a bit skeptical, but anything is possible. particularly when you consider the number of possible input parameters on most solvers. my personal impression/guess is that one of the plots is mislabeled...

thanks Peter.
I do enjoy the details.
I imagine its a character flaw.
similar to missing the 'forest for the trees'...but too late to change now.

Re: Tuttle Box Shifting

Could be just a matter of fit. In that case shims, an additional coat of resin or similar tooling product would be the easiest approach. But...I doubt any 'off the shelf ' Tuttle box is designed for hydrofoil type loads. Distortion of the taper when over loaded may be why the assembly shifts. I'm no...
